@Q&A with a Pentagon Press Secretary General Patrick Ryder and Janne Pak at the Pentagon Press Briefing on December 5, 2024.

U.S. Department of Defense Press Secretary, General Ryder announced on the 5th (local time) that Secretary of Defense Austin will visit Japan next week. Originally, he had planned to visit South Korea and Japan, but the plan to visit South Korea was put on hold due to the martial law declaration in South Korea.

미 국방부는 대변인 Ryder장군은 5일(현지시간) 오스틴 국방장관이 다음주 일본을 방문할 것이라고 발표했다. 원래 한국과 일본을 방문할 계획이었으나 한국의 비상계엄선포 사건으로 인해 한국방문 계획이 보류된 것이다.

In today's briefing, General Ryder seems to have recognized the atmosphere caused by the declaration of martial law in Korea, saying that he believes that now is not an appropriate time to visit South Korea due to Secretary Austin's inability to visit South Korea.

라이더 장군은 오늘 브리핑에서 오스틴장관이 한국을 방문할수 없는것에 대해 지금은 적절한 방한시기가 아니라고 판단한다면서 한국의 비상계엄선포로 인한 분위기를 인식한 듯 하다.

In addition, the 4th U.S.-ROK Nuclear Consultative Group Meeting (NCG), scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C. from the 4th to the 5th, was canceled, and nuclear deterrence training and roadside exercises were postponed indefinitely.

또한 4일부터 5일까지 미국 워싱턴에서 개최하기로 한 제4차 미.한 핵협의 그룹회의(NCG)가 취소 됨으로서 핵억제훈련과 도상연습은 무기한 연기됐다.

First question, how do you assess the fact that South Korea's martial law declaration was inevitably lifted without armed conflict under the president's authority to protect the liberal democracy and prevent national security threats?

A:(MAJOR GENERAL RYDER): I don't have any updates to provide in terms of rescheduling. Again, just given the events in ROK, it was deemed a prudent measure, and we'll keep you updated in terms of a new date when that's rescheduled. Thank you.
