During trade negotiations last July, the United States and South Korea agreed to establish a $350 billion (approximately KRW 497 trillion) investment fund for South Korea.

미국과 한국은 지난 7월 무역협상에서 한국이 3500억 달러(약 497조원) 규모의 대미 투자펀드를 조성하는데 합의했다.

South Korea planned to pursue the "MASGA" project to support the US shipbuilding industry, with an expected $150 billion (approximately KRW 213 trillion) in investment.

한국은 대미 조선업  위해 ‘마스가(MASGA)’ 프로젝트를 추진할 계획이었고 이 중 1500억 달러(약 213조원)가 투자될 것으로 예상되었다.

The South Korea-US summit was held at the White House on August 25th, but ended without a joint statement.

그리고 8월25일 한미정상회담을 백악관에서 가졌으나 양국간 공동성명하나 없이 회담이 끝났다.

The US-South Korea tariff negotiations have effectively stalled because South Korean President Lee Jae-myung failed to keep his promise of $350 billion to President Trump.

한국 이재명 대통령이 트럼프 대통령에게 약속했던 3500억 달러가 지켜지지 않았기 때문에 한미 관세협상은 사실상 결론을 짓지 못했다.

It has been reported that the Korean delegation, which visited the Washington DC, United States today (local time) for Korea-U.S. tariff negotiations, along with Policy Director Kim Yong-beom, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeong-gwan, and Trade Negotiation Chief Yeo Han-koo, visited the White House to discuss cooperation measures between Korea and the U.S.

16일 오늘(현지시간) 한미 관세협상을 위해 미국 워싱턴 DC를  방문한 한국 대표단은 김용범 정책실장과 김정관 산업통상자원부 장관, 여한구 통상교섭본부장은 백악관을 방문해 한미간 협력 방안을 논의했다고 알려졌다.

Kim, the policy chief, and others visited the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) this afternoon and met with Director Russell Bott for about 50 minutes.

김 정책실장 등은 오늘 오후  백악관 예산관리국(OMB)을 방문해 러셀 보트 국장과 약 50분간 회담했다.

The White House visit by the negotiating delegation, including Chief of Staff Kim, was reportedly intended to discuss South Korea's investment in the US shipbuilding industry, rather than directly engaging in tariff negotiations. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the agency responsible for reviewing the U.S. federal government's budget and related laws. Unlike the South Korean delegation's visit to the White House in July, they did not meet with President Trump.

김 정책실장 등 협상단의 백악관 방문은 직접적인 관세 협상보다는 한국의 대미 조선업 투자 방안을 논의하기 위한 차원으로 전해졌다. OMB는 미국 연방정부 예산과 법률 관련 검토 등을 담당하는 기관이다. 지난 7월 한국 대표단이 백악관을 방문했을때와 달리 트럼프 대통령과 만남은 이뤄지지 않았다.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Koo Yoon-chul was originally scheduled to accompany the South Korean delegation to the White House, but he was unable to attend due to his commitments to the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB) Annual Meetings. It has been reported that the South Korean delegation's visit to the White House is not intended for direct negotiations with the Office of the Treasury.

당초 구윤철 경제부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관도 백악관 방문에 동행할 예정이었으나, 구 부총리는 주요 20개국(G20) 재무장관·중앙은행총재 회의 및 국제통화기금(IMF)·세계은행(WB) 연차총회 일정으로 인해 참석하지 못했다.

이번 한국대표단의 백악관 방문은,  OMB와의 직접협상을 하기위한 것은 아니다고 알려졌다.

Full-scale discussions toward a final agreement on the Korea-U.S. tariff negotiations are expected to take place between Minister Kim and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Rutnick. However, with President Trump demanding $350 billion in direct cash payments, much work remains to be done.

한미 관세협상 최종 타결을 위한 본격적인 논의는 김 장관과 하워드 러트닉 미 상무장관간에 이뤄질 예정이다.  하지만 트럼프 대통령은 3500억 달러를 현금으로 직접 줄것을 요구하고 있기 때문에 아직도 남은 숙제가 많다.

In response to China's recent sanctions against Hanwha Shipbuilding, the U.S. State Department condemned China and stated that it would maintain the alliance between the U.S. and South Korea in the shipbuilding industry.

중국이 최근 한화조선에 대한 제재를 한데 대해 미 국무부는 중국에 대해 성토하면서 한미간 조선업과 동맹관계를 유지할 것이라고 밝혔다.

It remains to be seen whether this weekend's golf meeting between President Trump and the heads of South Korea's major corporations at Malacca, Florida, will be a decisive moment in concluding the US-South Korea tariff negotiations.

이번주말에 트럼프 대통령과 한국의 대기업총수들과의 프로리다의 말라라고에서의 골프회동이 한미간의 관세협상을 타결하는 결정적인 날이 될것인지 두고봐야 한다. (끝)
