@Q&A with a State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller and Janne Pak at the State Department Press Briefing on June 26, 2024.

Regarding North Korea's continued provocations of sending trash balloons to South Korea and North Korea's launch of a ballistic missile toward the East Coast in the early morning of the 26th, the U.S. State Department said, "We continue to urge North Korea to refrain from such provocative actions and return to diplomacy."

North Korea stated that this ballistic missile launch was a multiple warhead missile test for nuclear warhead missile testing and claimed that it had succeeded in separating the warheads.

미 국무성은 북한이 계속적으로 쓰레기 풍선을 남한으로 보내는 도발과 26일 새벽 북한이 동해안으로 탄도미사일 발사에 대해 “북한이 이러한 도발적인 행동을 자제하고 외교로 복귀할 것을 계속해서 촉구한다.”고 밝혔다.

북한은 이번 탄도미사일 발사는 핵탄두 미사일 시험을 위한 다탄두 미사일 시험이라고 밝히면서 탄두분리에 성공했다고 주장했다.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff dismissed North Korea's claims of success, announcing on the 26th that North Korea's ballistic missile launch exploded in the air and that the test failed.

한국 합동참모부는 26일 북한의 탄도미사일 발사는 공중에서 폭발했고, 런 시험에 실패 했다고 발표하면서 북한의 성공 주장을 일축했다.

In addition, the State Department stated that it opposes strengthening cooperation between North Korea and Russia in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory and directly criticized North Korea for sending North Korean workers to Donetsk for Russia.

또한 국무부는 러시아가 점령한 우크라이나 영토에서 북러간의 협력 강화는 반대한다고 밝히면서 북한이 러시아를 위해 북한 노동자를 도네츠크에 파견 하는것에 대해 정면 비난했다.

At a State Department briefing today(26th), Spokesperson Matthew Miller responded to my question, “What is the United States’ position on North Korea’s announcement that it will send North Korean workers to reconstruction on Donetsk, Ukraine?” He responded, “We are concerned about the burgeoning relationship between North Korea and Russia. “Of course, Donetsk is part of Ukraine, not part of Russia,” he emphasized. “We are opposed to any strengthening of cooperation between the two countries regarding activities in the occupied territory of Ukraine,”

매튜밀러 대변인은 오늘 국무성 브리핑에서 “북한이 우크라이나 도네츠크 재건을 위해 북한 노동자들을 파견하겠다고 발표한데 대해 미국의 입장이 무엇이냐?”는 나의질문에, 그는 “우리는 북한과 러시아 사이의 급성장하는 관계에 대해 상당히 우려해 왔다.”면서 “물론 도네츠크는 러시아의 일부가 아닌 우크라이나의 일부이다.”고 말했다. 그러면서 “점령된 우크라이나 영토에서의 활동과 관련하여 두 국가 간의 협력 강화는 우리가 반대하는 것입니다.”강조했다.

Meanwhile, U.S. Department of Defense(Pentagon) Press Secretary General Ryder expressed a strong stance, saying, “We would have seen Russian soldiers dying in Ukraine, and if North Korean troops were to be dispatched to Ukraine, they would become a cannon fodder.”

한편, 미 국방부 라이더 대변인은 “우크라이나에서 러시아 군인들이 죽어나가는 것을 우리는 보았을 것 이라면서, 북한군이 우크라이나에 파견된다면 총알받이가 될 것이다.”고 강경한 입장을 밝혔다.

It has been revealed that North Korea is actually sending North Korean troops disguised as workers to China and Russia. The rapidly deepening military cooperation between North Korea and Russia is an urgent issue that not only Ukraine but also the international community, including South Korea, should be concerned about.

북한은 실제로 노동자로 위장한 북한군대를 중국등 러시아로 파견하고 있다는 것이 밝혀졌다. 급속도로 밀착된 북러의 군사협력은 비단 우크라이나 뿐만 아니라 한국등 국제사회가 우려해야 할 당면 과제이다.

Due to the impact of these trash balloons, operation at Incheon International Airport are being disrupted, and flight cancellation occurred. What comment can you make on this?

A:(MR MILLER): So I don’t have any specific comment on that. I had not seen that report. But obviously, we have been quite concerned about the burgeoning relationship between North Korea and Russia. Obviously, Donetsk is part of Ukraine, not part of Russia. And so any kind of increased cooperation between those two countries when it relates to activities on occupied Ukrainian territory is something that we would oppose.
