"Official working-level talks between President Trump and President Lee, ended without a joint statement: "The talks will continue!"

[공동성명문없이 끝난 트럼프 대통령과 이재명 공식실무회담_ ‘회담은 계속될것!]

@Janne Pak asked President Trump about his tweets  from earlier in the day: "Mr. President, are you concerned about the purge in South Korea you posted on Truth Social? And are you concerned about South Korean President Yoon?" President Trump replied, "We will see." "It will be a good meeting">>>

President Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met at the White House today (the 25th, local time). This was not a state visit, with the usual protocols and formalities of a new South Korean president's first visit to the United States, including a state guesthouse, honor guard review, and dinner, but rather an official business visit, so expectations were low.

트럼프 대통령과 이재명 한국 대통령이 오늘(25일, 현지시간) 백악관에서 회담을 가졌다.  한국 새 대통령이 미국을 첫 방문할때 의전을 포함해 영빈관, 의장대 사열식, 저녁만찬등을 베풀었던 국빈방문이 아니고 공식업무방문이어서 크게 기대하지는 않았다.

Three hours before the meeting, President Trump posted a shocking message on his Truth Social account. The message read: “What is going on in South Korea? Seems like a Purge or Re”volution. We can’t have that and do business there. I am seeing the new President today at the White House. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!”

회담을 3시간 앞두고 트럼프 대통령은 자신의 Truth Social에 충격적인 글을 올렸다. 내용은, “한국에서 무슨 일이 벌어지고 있는 걸까요? 마치 숙청이나 혁명처럼 보입니다. 그런 상황에서 사업을 할 수는 없습니다. 오늘 백악관에서 새 대통령을 만납니다. 관심 가져주셔서 감사합니다”

Earlier, at the executive order signing ceremony held before the meeting with Lee Jae-myung at 10:34 a.m., when asked by a reporter to elaborate on the contents of the letter, President Trump replied, "I heard that in recent days there have been raids and seizures of churches in South Korea, very aggressive raids and seizures by the new South Korean government."

앞서 트럼프 대통령은 오전 10시 34분 이재명과 회담 전에 열린 행정명령 서명식에서 글의 내용을 자세히 설명해 달라는 기자의 질문을 받고 "최근 며칠 동안 한국에서 교회에 대한 압수수색, 한국 새 정부에 의한 매우 공격적인 압수수색이 있었다고 들었다"라고 답했다.

They continued, "I heard they even went into our (US military) bases to gather intelligence," adding, "They shouldn't have done that, but I've heard bad things."

이어 그들은 "심지어 우리(미군) 군사 기지에 들어가 정보를 수집했다고 들었다"라며 "그렇게 해서는 안 됐을 것인데, 나는 안 좋은 일들을 들었다"라고 덧붙였다.

At 12:33 p.m., when Lee Jae-myung's vehicle arrived at the White House and stopped at the entrance to the Oval Office, President Trump came out to greet Lee and shook his hand. At that moment, I asked President Trump about his tweets from earlier in the day: "Mr. President, are you concerned about the purge in South Korea you posted on Truth Social? And are you concerned about President Yoon?" President Trump replied, "We will see." "It will be a good meeting"

오후12시 33분 이재명이 탄 차량이 백악관에 도착해 오발 오피스 현관에 멈춰섰을때 트럼프 대통령은 현관앞에 나와서 이재명이를 맞이하면서 서로 악수를 했다.  바로 이때 나는 오늘 트럼프 대통령이 투윗에 올린 내용에 관해 물었다. “대통령님,  귀하가 Truth Social에 올렸던, 한국에서 숙청에 대해 우려하고 있느냐? 그리고 귀하는 윤대통령에 대해 우려하고 있느냐?”고 질문했다.  트럼프 대통령은 “우리는 볼것이다.” "좋은 미팅이 될것이다."고 말했다.

President Trump immediately escorted Lee Jae-myung into his office and had him sign the visitor's log. It's not yet known what he wrote in the log.

트럼프 대통령은 곧발로 이재명을 데리고 사무실로 들어가 방문록에 서명하게 했다.  방문록에 어떤 문구를 남겼는지 아직 알려 지지는 않았다.

At 12:43 p.m. on the 25th (local time), President Trump and President Lee Jae-myung moved to the Oval Office, where they each made statements and then took questions from reporters present, holding a public meeting that lasted approximately 53 minutes. From 1:36 p.m. to 3:18 p.m., they held a private meeting followed by a light lunch.

25일(현지시간) 오후 12시 43분 트럼프 대통령과 이재명 대통령은 오발오피스로 이동해 각자 발언을 한 뒤, 현장에 있던 기자들에게 질문을 받는 방식으로 약 53분동안 공개회담을 졌다. 오후 1시 36분부터 3시 18분까지 오찬(간단한 점심)과 함께 비공개 회담을 가졌다.

There seemed to be confusion over the meaning of President Trump's "sudden remark" on Twitter, but thanks to the quick response of the public relations team accompanying Lee Jae-myung, Lee Jae-myung was actually flattering and currying favor with President Trump.

트럼프 대통령이 트윗에 올린 '돌발 발언'이 의미하는 바를 두고 혼란이 이는 듯했으나, 이재명을 수행하고있는 공보팀의 재빠른 수습으로 이재명은 오히려 트럼프 대통령에게 아부를 하며 비위를 마추고 있었다.

To silence these people, they pledged to pay a total of $600 billion to the United States. If a huge amount of taxpayer money is paid to the United States, the Korean people will be deeply dissatisfied.

이런 입막음을 하기위해 총 6천억달러를 미국에 바치기로 약속했다.  한국국민의 엄청난 혈세가 미국에 지불되면, 국민들에게는 큰 불만이 있게될 것이다.

In other words, it is a trick that is so obvious that it seems like Lee Jae-myung is trying to solve his own mistakes with money and the United States.

즉 이재명 자신의 과오를 마치 미국과 돈으로 해결하려는것과 같은 속이 보이는 꼼수다.

During the public meeting, Lee Jae-myung praised President Trump's achievements, and much of the conversation focused on resuming US-North Korea dialogue. In particular, President Lee urged President Trump to play a leading role in achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula, including by meeting with North Korea's Kim Jong-un.

이재명은 공개회담에서 트럼프 대통령의 업적을 칭찬했고, 대화의 상당 부분이 미북 대화 재개에 초점이 맞춰졌다. 특히 이 대통령은 트럼프 대통령에게 북한 김정은을 만나는 등 한반도 평화에 주도적인 역할을 해달라고 요청했다.

The president said, "If possible, I hope to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula, the only divided nation in the world," and added, "I also hope to meet with Kim Jong-un (Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea)." He added, "I also hope you build a Trump World in North Korea so I can play golf there, and I sincerely hope you will play a role as a peacemaker in world history."

이 대통령은 "가급적 전 세계에서 유일하게 분단국가로 남아 있는 한반도에도 평화를 만들어달라"며 "김정은(북한 국무위원장)도 만나달라"고 했다. 이어 "북한에 트럼프월드도 하나 지어서 저도 거기서 골프도 칠 수 있게 해주시고 세계사적인 평화의 메이커 역할을 꼭 해주시길 기대한다"라고 덧붙였다.

He also said, "It's not easy for inter-Korean relations to improve with my involvement, and the only person who can actually solve this problem is President Trump," adding, "If the President acts as a 'peacemaker,' I will actively support him as a 'pacemaker.'" In response, President Trump reiterated his good relationship with Kim Jong-un and expressed his desire to meet Chairman Kim as early as this year.

그러면서 "저의 관여로 남북 관계가 잘 개선되기는 쉽지 않은 상태인데, 실제로 이 문제를 풀 수 있는 유일한 인물은 트럼프 대통령"이라며 "대통령께서 '피스메이커'를 하시면 저는 '페이스메이커'로 열심히 지원하겠다"라고도 언급했다. 이에 트럼프 대통령은 김정은과 좋은 관계를 유지하고 있음을 재차 강조하며 빠르면 올해 김 위원장을 만나고 싶다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

The two leaders also mentioned cooperation in the shipbuilding industry. President Trump stated, "We're considering a shipbuilding contract. South Korea is very good at building ships," and added, "There's also the possibility of South Korean shipyards coming to the United States to build ships." He also made comments suggesting South Korea should purchase American weapons and energy.

양국 정상은 조선업 협력에 대해서도 언급했다. 트럼프 대통령은 "선박 계약을 고려하고 있다. 한국은 배를 아주 잘 만든다"라며 "또 한국 조선소들이 미국으로 와서 선박을 건조하는 방안도 있다"라고 언급했다. 그러면서 한국이 미국 무기 및 에너지를 구매해야 한다는 취지의 발언도 있었다.

트럼프 대통령은 "우리는 세계 어느 나라보다 훨씬 더 많은 석유와 가스, 석탄을 보유하고 있다"라며 "내 생각에 한국이 우리에게 가장 원하는 것이 바로 그것"이라고 말했다.

Previously, South Korea agreed to purchase $100 billion (approximately 140 trillion won) worth of energy products from the United States, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), through tariff negotiations.

앞서 한국은 관세 협상을 통해 액화천연가스(LNG)를 비롯해 미국으로부터 1000억달러(약 140조원) 규모 에너지 제품을 구매하기로 합의했다.

When asked about the possibility of reducing the number of US troops stationed in Korea, he said, "I don't want to talk about that now because we were friends and we are friends," but he also made remarks that seemed to demand ownership of the land where US military bases are located in Korea.

주한미군 감축 가능성을 묻는 말에 대해서는 "그걸 지금 말하고 싶지는 않다. 우리는 친구였고, 친구이기 때문"이라면서도 주한미군 기지 부지에 대한 소유권을 요구하는 듯한 발언을 했다.

"We've spent a tremendous amount of money building these bases, and South Korea has contributed, but I want to see if we can eliminate the leases and secure ownership of the land that these huge military bases are on," Trump said.

트럼프 대통령은 "우리는 (주한미군) 기지를 건설하는 데 엄청난 돈을 썼고 한국이 기여한 게 있지만, 우리가 임대차 계약(lease)을 없애고 거대한 군 기지를 두고 있는 땅의 소유권을 확보할 수 있는지 보고 싶다"라고 말했다.

During the meeting, when a reporter asked Trump again about the article he had presented to Truth Social, he said, "I heard from the intelligence community that there were raids on churches," adding, "It didn't sound like something that should be done in Korea to me." 출처,SeongJoon Cho/Bloomberg via Getty Images

회담 중 기자가 트럼프 대통령이 트루스소셜에 제시한 글에 대해 재차 질문하자 "나는 정보 당국으로부터 교회들에 대한 압수수색이 있었다고 들었다"라며 "내게는 한국답지 않은 일로 들렸다"라고 말했다.

The president said that in South Korea, "a special prosecutor appointed by the National Assembly is investigating the situation of the civil war," and that "it appears that they are not directly investigating the US military, but rather checking how the control system of the ROK military within that unit worked."

이 대통령은 한국에서 "내란 상황에 대해 국회가 임명하는 특검에 의해 사실 조사가 진행 중"이라며 "미군을 직접 수사한 게 아니라 그 부대 안에 있는 한국군 통제 시스템이 어떻게 작동했는지 확인한 것 같다"라고 말했다.

The comfort women issue was raised in questions about South Korea-US-Japan cooperation. President Trump stated, "I thought the comfort women issue had been resolved several times in the past, but it wasn't." He added, "Japan wanted to cover it up, but South Korea was determined to address it."

한미일 협력과 관련한 질문에서는 위안부 문제가 거론됐다. 트럼프 대통령은 "위안부 문제가 과거에 몇 차례 해결이 됐다고 생각했는데 그렇지 않더라"라며 "일본은 이 문제를 덮고 싶어 했는데 한국은 꼭 짚고 넘어가고자 했다"라고 말했다.

President Lee emphasized his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba prior to the summit, saying, "When I met with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, I believe many of the obstacles we had before were removed," and added, "I believe the future of Korea-Japan relations is bright."

이에 이 대통령은 회담에 앞서 이시바 시게루 일본 총리를 만나고 온 점을 강조하며 "이시바 시게루 일본 총리를 만났을 때, 그 전에 가지고 있던 여러 장애요소가 많이 제거됐다고 생각한다"며 "한일관계의 앞날이 밝다고 본다"고 했다.

Regarding relations with China, President Trump mentioned a recent conversation with President Xi Jinping and mentioned the possibility of a visit to China this year or next year, jokingly asking President Lee, "Would you like to fly with me?"

중국과의 관계에 대해서는 트럼프 대통령이 시진핑 주석과 최근 대화를 가졌다며 올해 또는 내년 방중 가능성을 언급하며 이 대통령에게 "같이 비행기를 타고 가겠느냐"라며 농담을 건넸다.

President Trump did not give a definitive answer on whether he would attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in South Korea in October, but said, "I think I might go," and that he would be traveling to South Korea soon for trade talks.

오는 10월 한국에서 개최되는 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 정상회의 참석 여부에 대해 트럼프 대통령은 확답하지는 않았으나 "갈 수 있다고 본다"며 무역회담을 하러 한국에 곧 갈것이다.”고 말했다.

After the public meeting, the two leaders switched their schedule to private, and held an expanded meeting and lunch in the Cabinet Room for a total of about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

공개 회담 이후 양 정상은 일정을 비공개로 전환, 캐비닛룸에서 확대 회담과 오찬을 병행해 총 2시간 30분가량 진행됐다.

The closed-door meeting reportedly reviewed a coordinated agenda, discussing tariffs, US-ROK cooperation projects, increased defense spending, and economic security. In particular, it was assessed that increased purchases of US weapons would contribute to national defense and security.

비공개회담에서는 서로 조율된 의제를 재검토하면서 관세및 한미 조선협력 프로젝트,방위비증액 및 경제 안보등이 논의된것으로 밝혀졌다. 특히 미국산 무기구매를 많이 함으로서 국방안보에 도움이 될것이라는 평가다.

At 3:18 p.m., after the meeting ended, President Lee left the Oval Office alone, without President Trump's escort, got into his vehicle, and left the White House without answering reporters' questions about the outcome of the meeting.

오후 3시18분 회담이 끝난후 트럼프 대통령의 에스코트 없이 이대통령이 혼자 집무실을 나와 차량에 탑승했고, 회담의 성과에 대한 기자들의 질문에는 답을 하지 않고 백악관을 떠났다.

There are no reports of specific agreements reached during this meeting. They only say that tariff issues will continue to be discussed. There are no joint agreements or statements. There was no joint press congerence. Beyond what the two leaders confirmed during their meeting, nothing has been fully resolved.

이번 회담에서는 구체적으로 협의된 것에 대한 보도가 없다. 관세문제는 계속해서 논의 할 것이라는 말만 하고 있다.  공동합의문과 성명문서도 없다. 공동기자회견도 없었다. 양국 정상이 만나서 서로 확인한것 외에는 완전히 결론을 낸 것이 없다.

The South Korea-US summit isn't over. I believe bilateral talks will continue in the future.

한미 정상회담은 끝나지 않았다. 앞으로 양자회담은 계속 될 것이라고 본다. (끝)
