President Trump held a Cabinet meeting at the White House today (8th, local time). President Trump spoke about the economy and asked Treasury Secreatary Scott Bessent to discuss tariffs. He said that the U.S. is on track to earn "well over $300 billion" in tariff revenue this year.

Meanwhile, Following the tariff letter sent to Korea yesterday, President Trump mentioned defense costs for Korea again during a cabinet meeting at the White House today. President Trump stated, “Korea is a wealthy country and should pay for its own defense costs.” He pointed out that Korea has been free-riding on security, and announced that there would be no more grace periods for trade and other tariffs.

한편, 트럼프 대통령은 어제 한국에 관세 서한을 보낸데 이어 오늘 백악관에서 캐비넷 회의를 하는 중에 다시 한국에 대한 방위비를 언급했다. 트럼프 대통령은 “한국은 부유한 나라이며, 방위비를 스스로 부담해야 한다.”고 언급했다. 그동안 한국이 안보 무임승차를 지적하면서 무역등 관세에 대해 더이상 유예기간이 없을것이라고 밝혔다.

In the letter sent to Korea yesterday, he hinted at the flexibility of the grace period while observing negotiations until August 1, but it is expected that the tariff negotiations will not go smoothly as he eventually mentioned defense cost sharing.

어제 한국에 보낸 서한에서는 8월1일까지 협상을 지켜보면서 유예기간의 유동성을 암시했지만 결국 방위비 분담까지 언급하면서 관세협상이 순조롭지 않을 것으로 예상된다.

Regarding the 25% tariffs imposed on South Korea and Japan, which are US allies, 57% of Japanese people are angry at President Trump's tariff bomb, and the government has come out to confront President Trump.

미국의 동맹국인 한국과 일본에 25% 관세 부과를 한데 대해 일본 국민들의 57%가 트럼프 대통령의 관세 폭탄에 분노하면서 정부가 트럼프 대통령에 맞서라고 분노하고 나섰다.

The majority of Koreans are still expecting an amicable resolution with the US, as there is still time for negotiations. If the current 25% automobile tariff is added to the existing 25% tariff, a 50% tariff will have to be imposed, and it seems that we will face enormous trade barriers in the future.

한국 국민들의 대다수는 아직 협상시간이 남아있어 미국과 원만하게 해결을 기대하고 있다. 현재 자동차 관세 25%에 기존관세 25%를 부과한다면 50%의 관세를 부과해야 되는데 앞으로 엄청난 무역장벽에 부딪히게 될 것 같다.
