@Q&A with a White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby and Janne Pak at the White House Press Briefing on July 25, 2024.

The White House said on the 25th that North Korea is still exporting weapons and that it will be held accountable.

Today (25th), Prime Minister of Israel Natanyahu held a meeting with President Biden at the White House. After the meeting, President Biden met with families held hostage by Hamas.

Recently, American families who were victims of Hamas filed a $1 billion lawsuit against North Korean authorities in U.S. federal court. The reason is that the weapons used by Hamas are North Korean-made weapons that North Korea supported to Hamas, so they claim that North Korea is responsible.

미 백악관은 25일 북한의 무기수출이 여전히 자행되고 있다면서 반드시 책임을 물을 것이라고 밝혔다.

오늘(25일) 이스라엘 나탄야후 총리가 백악관에서 바이든 대통령과 회담을 가졌다. 회담이 끝난후 바이든 대통령은 하마스에게 인질로 잡힌 가족들을 접견했다.

최근 하마스로부터 희생당한 미국인 가족들이 미 연방법원에 북한당국을 상대로 $1billion(1억달러) 청구 소송을 했다. 이유인즉 하마스가 사용한 무기가 북한이 하마스에게 지원한 북한제 무기이므로 북한이 책임이 있다는 주장이다.

White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby said at a White House briefing today, he responded to my question, "Recently, American families who were victims of Hamas filed a lawsuit against North Korea Authorities in the U.S. Federal Court demanding $1 billion in compensation from North Korea, claiming that North Korea was responsible because the weapons used by Hamas were weapons supported by North Korea." "What is your comment on this?"

존 커비 백악관 국가안보소통 보좌관은 오늘 백악관 브리핑에서 “하마스에 피해를 당한 미국인 가족들이 미 연방법원에 북한을 상대로 $1billion(1억달러)을 청구하는 소송을 제기 한데 대해 미국의 입장을 묻는 나의 질문에,

Kirby said "Mr. Kim continues to export military capability. And we continue to work with allies and partners and counterparts to hold them accountable for that.“ ”They’re also exporting technology and weapons systems to Russia so they can kill innocent Ukrainians.“ And ”we’re going to continue to hold them accountable for that kind of behavior."

U.S. Department of Defense(Pentagon) Press Secretary General Patrick Ryder also said at a regular Pentagon briefing on the 23rd, “By providing ammunition and weapons to Russia, North Korea is helping it continue its illegal and unjustified war against the Ukrainian people,” adding, “The United States will continue to address this issue.” “We will be watching,” he said.

패트릭 라이더 미 국방부 대변인도 23일 펜타곤 정례 브리핑에서 “북한이 러시아에 탄약과 무기를 제공함으로써 우크라이나 국민에 대한 불법적이고 정당한 이유 없는 전쟁을 지속할 수 있도록 돕고 있다”면서 “미국은 이 문제를 계속 주시할 것이다.”고 밝혔다.

Also, when asked, “If Vice President Harris is elected as the next president, will she continue the U.S.-Korea foreign policy?”, Kirby said, “I am not going to speak for a hypothetical electoral outcome.”

또한 “해리스 부통령이 만약 다음 대통령에 당선된다면 한.미 외교정책을 그대로 이어갈 것이냐?“는 질문에는 ”나는 가상의 선거 결과에 대해 이야기하지 않을 것이다.“고 말하면서 직접 해리스 부통령실에 물어봐야 한다."고 커비 소통관은  말했다.

Meanwhile, a senior White House official said that there will not be much change in Korea-US relations even after the Harris administration takes office, and that the strong alliance will continue.

한편, 백악관의 고위관리는 해리스 행정부가 들어서더라도 한미관계는 별 변화가 없을 것이라면서 굳건한 동맹관계를 계속 이어갈것이라고 언급했다.

*The war in Ukraine is not over as North Korea provides weapons to Russia. North Korea also deals arms to Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran. The international community already knows that North Korea is randomly exporting weapons to enemy countries to finance its nuclear missiles.

*북한이 러시아에 무기지원을 함으로서 우크라이나 전쟁이 끝나지 않고 있다. 북한은 또한 하마스와 헤즈볼라, 이란등에도 무기거래를 하고 있다. 북한이 핵 미사일 자금을 위해 무작위로 적성국들에 무기를 수출하고 있는 것은 국제사회가 이미 알고 있다.

*The problem is that allies and partner countries will need to conduct in-depth research on how to block North Korea's arms trade with hostile countries and how to take responsibility for it.

*문제는 북한이 적성국들과 무기거래를 하는 것을 어떻게 차단할 것이며 그 책임을 어떤식으로 지게 할 것인가에 대해 동맹국들과 파트너국가들이 심도있게 연구해야 할 것이다.

A:(MR. KIRBY): Look, Mr. Kim continues to export military capability. And we continue to work with allies and partners and counterparts to hold them accountable for that. They’re also exporting technology and weapons systems to Russia so they can kill innocent Ukrainians. And we’re going to continue to hold them accountable for that kind of behavior.
