미국 민주당 대선 후보인 카멀라 해리스(오른쪽) 부통령과 공화당 대선 후보인 도널드 트럼프 전 대통령이 10일 펜실베이니아주 필라델피아 국립헌법센터에서 ABC방송 주최로 동부시간 저녁 9시 TV 토론을 했다.

Unlike the June debate hosted by CNN in the US, the debate on this day was conducted based on active ‘fact checking’ by ABC hosts David Muir and Lindsey Davis, who hosted the debate. In response to excessive remarks about abortion and immigrants eating animals, host David Muir corrected them by pointing out the facts.

이날 토론은 미국 CNN방송이 주관했던 6월 토론 때와 달리 토론을 주관한 미 ABC방송 측 진행자 데이비드 뮤어와 린지 데이비스는 적극적으로 ‘팩트체크(사실관계 확인)’에 기반을 두고 진행했다. 낙태에 관한 과격한 발언, 이민자들의 동물 시식등에 대한 발언에 대해서는 진행자 데이비드 뮤어는 사실관계를 지적하며 정정하기도 했다.

In the debate between Trump and Harris, issues such as immigration, abortion, the economy, and foreign Policies were discussed. In particular, diplomatic issues were watched with interest by countries that are allies of the United States, including South Korea.

트럼프와 해리스 양자 토론에서는 이민자, 낙태, 경제, 외교문제등이 거론되었다. 특히 외교문제는 한국을 포함해 미국과 동맹국인 나라들이 관심을 갖고 지켜봤다.

In particular, presidential candidate Harris said that if Trump is elected president, Korean Peninsula policy and foreign affairs will be a threat. At the same time, she criticized former President Trump's close relationship with North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un. Former President Trump immediately refuted this by saying, “North Korea and China are afraid of me.”

특히 해리스 대통령 후보는 만일 트럼프가 대통령으로 당선되면 한반도 정책과 외교문제는 위협이 될 것이라고 말했다. 그러면서 트럼프 전 대통령이 북한 김정은 위원장과 친분을 맺은 것을 비판했다. 트럼프 전 대통령은 ‘북한과 중국은 날 두려워한다.“고 즉시 반박했다.

Harris also said, "Trump is famous for admiring dictators," and "It is well known that Trump exchanged love letters with Kim Jong-un." “Dictators and despots around the world are rooting for Trump to become President of the United States again,” she said, adding sarcastically, “Because it is clear that Trump can be manipulated with flattery and favors.” She also added, “This is you (Trump).” That's why many military leaders I've worked with have told me, "Trump is a disgrace."

Former President Trump immediately refuted Harris' attack on North Korea's Kim Jong-un by saying, "North Korea and China are afraid of me." At the same time, he indirectly mentioned North Korean nuclear and missile threats. “Look what’s happening in North Korea,” Trump said. “When I was president there was no problem, but if you have a weak and pitiful leader, you know what happens.” This refers to the situation in which North Korea's ballistic missile test launches have resumed in earnest under the Joe Biden administration.

트럼프 전 대통령은 해리스의 북한 김정은과의 공격에 ‘북한과 중국은 날 두려워한다.“고 즉시 반박했다. 그러면서 북한 핵·미사일 위협을 간접적으로 거론하기도 했다. 트럼프는 "북한에서 무슨 일이 일어나는지 보라"며 "내가 대통령일 땐 아무 문제가 없었는데, 나약하고 가련한 지도자가 있다면 어떻게 될지 알 것"이라고 강조했다. 조 바이든 행정부 들어 북한의 탄도미사일 시험 발사가 다시 본격화한 상황을 지적한 셈이다.

Trump also launched a counterattack, mentioning the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his support for Harris last week, saying, "I think Putin was sincere." He continued, “Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told me that ‘China and North Korea are afraid of Trump.’ He said that I am the most feared and most respected person in the world.”

트럼프는 또한 지난주 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령이 '해리스 지지'를 밝힌 사실을 거론하면서 "나는 푸틴이 진심이었다고 본다"며 역공을 시작했다. 이어 "오르반 빅토르 헝가리 총리가 내게 '중국과 북한이 트럼프를 두려워한다'고 말했다. 그는 내가 전 세계에서 가장 경외의 존재가 되고 있고, 가장 존경받고 있다고 했다"고 주장했다.

Regarding the Israel-Hamas war, Trump also said, “If Harris becomes president, Israel will disappear within two years.” He said, “Harris hates Israel and has not even met Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.”

트럼프는 이스라엘-하마스 전쟁과 관련해서도 “만약 해리스가 대통령이 된다면 2년내 이스라엘이 사라질 것이다.”고 말했다. 그러면서 “해리스는 이스라엘을 싫어하고 네타냐후 이스라엘 총리도 만나지 않았다.”말했다.

Harris countered, "That's not true at all. I have lived my entire career and life for Israel and the Israeli people," and added, "It is a well-known fact that Trump is 'wrong' on national security and foreign policy."

해리스는 "전혀 사실이 아니다. 내 경력과 인생 전체를 이스라엘과 이스라엘 국민을 위해 살았다"며 "트럼프가 국가 안보와 외교 정책에서 '틀렸다'는 건 잘 알려진 사실"이라고 반박했다.

Regarding the war between Ukraine and Russia, Trump said, “If I win the presidential election, I will resolve it before I take office.” He then criticized the current Biden administration, saying, “Biden had no idea how to prevent the war.” Harris responded, “If Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kiev (Ukraine’s capital) right now.”

우크라이나·러시아 전쟁과 관련, 트럼프는 "내가 대선 승리를 한다면 대통령 취임 전에 내가 해결하겠다.“고 말했다. 그러면서 ”바이든은 전쟁을 어떻게 막을지에 대한 생각이 없었다.“고 현 바이든 정부를 비판했다. 해리스는 "트럼프가 대통령이었다면 푸틴 은 지금 키이우(우크라이나 수도)에 앉아 있을 것"이라고 맞 받아쳤다.

There were also differences of opinion on the Afghanistan issue. Regarding Trump's attempt to hold a secret meeting with the Taliban at Camp David, the U.S, president's villa, in 2019 while he was in office, Harris fired back, saying, "It's because you don't respect your role and responsibility as the president of the United States." Then, Trump countered by saying, "It was the worst withdrawal, the most shameful moment in the history of our country," referring to the incident in which 13 American soldiers were killed in the Kabul Airport bombing during the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2021 during the Biden administration.

또한 아프가니스탄 문제에서도 이견이 충돌했다. 트럼프가 재임 시절인 2019년 탈레반과의 비밀 회담을 미국 대통령 별장인 캠프데이비드에서 열려고 했던 것과 관련, 해리스는 "당신이 미국 대통령으로서 역할과 책임을 존중하지 않기 때문"이라고 쏘아붙였다. 그러자 트럼프는 바이든 행정부 때인 2021년 미군의 아프간 철수 당시 카불공항 폭탄 테러로 미군 13명이 사망한 사건을 언급하며 "최악의 철수였고, 우리나라 역사상 가장 부끄러운 순간이었다"고 반격했다.

The discussion on this day lasted for about 100 minutes, longer than the scheduled time. When the discussion ended, the two parted without shaking hands.

이날 토론은 예정 시간을 넘겨 100분가량 진행됐다. 토론이 끝났을 때 두 사람은 악수도 없이 헤어졌다.

After the debate, Trump said on the social networking service Truth Social, “It was the best debate I’ve ever had.” “Because it was a 3-to-1 match,” he wrote. This means that the moderator was biased.

트럼프는 토론 뒤 사회관계망서비스 트루스소셜에 “내 역대 최고의 토론이었다. 3대 1의 대결이었기 때문”이라고 썼다. 사회자가 편파적이었다는 뜻이다.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, a globally popular American singer, announced her support for Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris immediately after the US presidential candidate TV debate on the 10th. Swift is a huge pop star with 280 million followers on Instagram, a social networking service (SNS).

Now, it is entirely up to the American people(U.S. citizen) to choose which of the two presidential candidates in November will be the President of the United States. This presidential election is expected to be fierce.

한편, 세계적 인기를 누리는 미국 가수 테일러 스위프트가 10일 미국 대선 후보 TV 토론 직후 민주당 후보인 카멀라 해리스 부통령을 지지한다고 공개했다. 스위프트는 사회관계망서비스(SNS)인 인스타그램 팔로어만 2억8,000만 명에 달하는 초대형 팝스타다.

이제 11월 두 대선 주자중 미 합중국 대통령을 누구를 선택할지는 전적으로 미 시민권자인 미 국민들의 몫이다. 이번 대선이 치열할 것으로 예상된다.(끝)
