@Q&A with a Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh and Janne Pak at the Pentagon Press Briefing on August 15, 2024.

Military cooperation and arms trade between Russia and North Korea are concerns of the international community. However, arms cooperation between Russia, Iran, and Hamas is making the current situation in the Middle East more dangerous.

러시아와 북한간의 군사협력과 무기거래는 국제사회가 우려하고 있는 대목이다. 하지만 러시아와 이란 그리고 하마스간의 무기협력은 현재 중동사태를 더욱 위험하게 만들고 있다.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy recently disclosed that Russia attacked Kiev, Ukraine, with a North Korean-made missile and that four people, including a child, were killed.

젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령은 최근 러시아가 우크라이나 키이우를 북한제 미사일로 공격했으며 어린이를 포함한 4명의 사상자가 나왔다고 공개했다.

North Korea's Kim Jong-un reaffirmed his support for the war in Ukraine to Putin at the August 15 Liberation Day ceremony.

This is inevitable because Kim Jong-un promised to receive cutting-edge military technology from Putin.

북한 김정은은 8.15 광복절 기념식에서 푸틴에게 우크라이나 전쟁을 지지한다고 재 다짐했다.

그럴수 밖에 없는게 김정은은 푸틴으로 부터 첨단군사 기술을 이전받기로 약속 했기 때문이다.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Iran is attacking Israel with missiles supported by Russia. This is because former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his colleagues recently visited Iran and promised missile support, so we can fully understand what the intention was.

그런가하면 이란은 러시아가 지원한 미사일로 이스라엘을 공격하고 있다고 보됐다. 이는 최근에 세르게이 쇼이구 전 러시아 국방장관 일행들이 이란을 방문해서 미사일 지원을 약속했기 때문에 그 의도가 무엇이었는지 충분히 파악 할 수 있다,

The U.S. Department of Defense said, “In response to former Russian Defense Minister Shoigu’s visit to Iran and missile support, the war between Israel, Iran, and Hamas and its impact on the Middle East,” and “As Russia continues its illegal war in Ukraine, cooperation between Russia and Iran “We have seen the relationship deepen,” It said. “Iran has a choice as to how this plays out in the Middle East.”

At a regular briefing on the 15th, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh responded to my question saying, “Normally, Iran provides Russia with weapons to be used to in the war in Ukraine. Will this affect the war between Israel and Iran and Hamas?"

Singh said, “We have seen Russia continue to obtain weapons from Iran,” she said. “As Russia continues its illegal war in Ukraine, we have witnessed deepening cooperation and relations between Russia and Iran,” “Iran has choices about how this plays out in the Middle East," “We will defend Israel just as we did on April 13,”

Meanwhile, when asked, “North Korea is providing weapons to Hamas, do you think Israel will be threatened if the arms trade between Iran and North Korea continues?”

Singh emphasized, “Hamas certainly has a network that can receive financial support from Iran." “It appears that these are Iranian proxy groups participating in the actions we witnessed on October 7.” “Israel has the right to continue to pursue Hamas, and that is what they are doing in Gaza,”

QUESTION:(Janne Pak): Thank you, Sabrina. Two questions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea. Former Russian Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu recently visited Iran and promised the missile support to Iran. Normally, Iran provides Russia with weapons to be used to in the war in Ukraine. Will this affect the war between Israel and Iran and Hamas?

A:(MS. SINGH): So I can't speculate on you know on that visit. I would say that I think, separately, we've seen a deepening cooperation and relationship between Russia and Iran as Russia continues to engage in its unlawful war in Ukraine. So, we've seen that deepening partnership. We've seen Russia continue to seek weapons out from Iran.

While I can't speculate on what this visit entails, you know, we've seen these visits of leaders happen over the course of the last two years. In terms of how this plays into the Middle East, look, Iran has a choice. I think we've been very clear on our messaging when it comes to the defense of Israel.

QUESTION:(Janne Pak): But the North Korea is providing weapons to Hamas, and do you think Israel will be threaten if the arms trade between Iran and North Korea continues?

A:(MS. SINGH): Well, look, I think Hamas certainly has a network of being able to be financed by Iran. I mean these are Iran proxy groups engaging in acts that we saw happen on October 7th. Israel has a right to continue to go after Hamas and that's what they're doing in Gaza. I haven't seen some of these reports that you've referenced, so I'm just going to leave it at that.
