President Trump said, “We have depleted our arsenal to fight other countries’ wars without defending our own borders,” 

“The United States will not take responsibility for the security of other countries and will spend more time defending our own borders.”

On the 24th (local time), U.S. President Trump appeared wearing a red MAGA hat at the West Point Military Academy commencement speech. In front of 1,002 graduates that day, he called the U.S. “the hottest country in the world” and boasted about the government’s achievements, saying, “You are in a golden age.”

“I am laser-focused on America’s core national interests,” Trump said. “The days when defending every country but our own is our primary concern are over. We must put America first.” He declared an “America First” approach to defense, saying that over the past two decades, political leaders in both the Democratic and Republican parties have “dragged the military into wasteful pursuits of time, money, and soul, while soldiers have been sent to fight ‘nation-building’ wars in countries that want nothing to do with the United States, and have been abused at home and abroad.”

트럼프 대통령은 “나는 미국의 핵심 국가 이익에 레이저처럼 집중하고 있다”며 “우리나라를 제외한 모든 나라를 방어하는 게 주된 숙고였던 날은 끝났다. 우리는 미국을 우선시해야 한다”고 말했다. 지난 20년 동안 민주·공화 양당의 정치 지도자들이 “시간, 돈, 영혼을 낭비하는 일에 군대를 끌어들였고 군인들이 미국과 아무 관계도 원하지 않는 국가들의 ‘국가 건설’ 전쟁에 파견돼 국내외적으로 학대를 받았다”며 국방 분야에서의 ‘미국 우선주의’를 천명했다.

“The United States has focused on protecting other countries’ borders, but has neglected its own borders,” he said, emphasizing that “we will focus more on protecting our own country (the United States).”

“미국은 다른나라 국경을 지키는데 집중했지만 정작 미국의 국경을 지키는 일에 소흘히 했다면서 우리는 우리나라(미국)를 지키는데 더욱 집중할 것”을 강조했다.

On trade, he also claimed that “we are making deals with other countries that no one thought possible,” and that other countries will never be able to cheat the United States. However, President Trump said that “we will always prefer to seek reconciliation and cooperation,” but added that “if the United States or our allies are threatened, our military will destroy our enemies with overwhelming force and destructive force.”

무역에 있어서도 “우리는 다른 나라들과 누구도 가능하다 생각조차 못한 거래를 하고 있다”며 다른 나라들이 미국을 절대 속이지 못하게 만들었다고 주장했다. 다만 트럼프 대통령은 “화해하고 협력을 모색하는 것을 항상 선호할 것”이라면서도 “만약 미국이나 동맹국들이 위협적으로 공격받으면 군은 압도적 힘과 파괴적인 무력으로 우리의 적 들을 없앨 것”이라고 말했다.

President Trump prefers peace, but he also showed off America's power by saying that if our allies are attacked by enemies, we will not hesitate to respond with merciless attacks.

트럼프 대통령은 평화를 선호하나 만약에 우리의 동맹국이 적들에게 공격을 받을시 가차없는 대응공격도 불사하겠다는 미국의 힘을 과시하기도 했다.

As U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has been pushing to scrap the military's DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) policy since Trump's second term, he reaffirmed this policy keynote by saying, "Our (US) soldiers have been abused by irrational ideological experiments at home and abroad, but all that is over now" and "The mission of the US military is not to host 'drag shows. '"

트럼프 2기 집권 이후 피트 헤그세스 미 국방장관이 군내 DEI(다양성·형평성·포용성) 정책 폐기에 드라이브를 걸고 있는 가운데, “국내외에서 우리(미국) 군인들이 비이성적인 이데올로기 실험으로 학대를 받았지만 이제 모든 것이 끝났다” “미국 군대의 임무는 ‘드래그 쇼’를 주최하는 것이 아니다”라며 이런 정책 기조를 재확인했다.

Meanwhile, at West Point, clubs such as the Korean-American Relations Seminar, where Korean-American cadets are active, have been disbanded after being hit by the DEI abolition bullet. President Trump also said of the previous administration, “They mobilized the military for all sorts of social projects and political purposes,” and “They depleted America’s arsenal for other countries’ wars instead of defending our borders.” He emphasized that the United States will not be responsible for the security of other countries in the future and will put more effort into defending America’s borders.

한편 웨스트포인트에서도 한국계 미국인 생도들이 활동하는 클럽 ‘한미관계 세미나’ 등이 DEI 폐지로 인해 현재 해산된 상태다. 트럼프 대통령은 또한 이전 정부를 향해 “그들은 모든 종류의 사회 프로젝트와 정치적 목적을 위해 군인들을 동원했다”며 “우리 국경을 방어하지 않고 다른 나라의 전쟁을 위해 미국의 무기고를 고갈시켰다”고 말했다. 앞으로 미국은 다른나라의 안보를 책임지지 않을것이며 미국의 국경방어에 더 힘을 쓸 것을 강조했다.(끝)
