President Trump, "Winning the FIFA Peace Prize is 'the greatest honor of my life!"

The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America took place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on the 5th (local time). The ceremony was attended by the heads of the 42 countries confirmed to participate in the finals, including South Korea's Hong Myung-bo.

5일(현지시간) 워싱턴 DC의 케네디 센터에서 2026년 국제축구연맹(FIFA) 북중미 월드컵 조추첨이 열렸다.  추첨식에는 한국의 홍명보 감독을 비롯한 본선 참가가 확정된 42개국 사령탑들이 참석했다.

U.S. President Trump was announced as the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize laureate at a ceremony held ahead of the draw for the 2026 North and Central America World Cup.

2026 북중미 월드컵 조 추첨식에 앞서 열린 평화상 시상식에서 트럼프 미국 대통령이 1회 FIFA 평화상 수상자로 발표됐다.

Although President Trump did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize, it is significant that he was selected as the first FIFA Peace Prize laureate.

트럼프 대통령은 노벨평화상은 아쉽게 받지 못했지만 첫 FIFA 평화상 수상자로 선정된것에 의미가 있다.

FIFA praised President Trump for mediating the conflict between Israel and Hamas and for his efforts to end the war in Ukraine since taking office. President Trump took the stage and placed the medal around his neck.

FIFA는 트럼프 대통령이 취임후 이스라엘과 하마스 간 분쟁을 중재했고, 우크라이나 전쟁의 종전을 위해 노력을 기울이고 있다고 평가했다. 무대에 오른 트럼프 대통령은 메달을 손에들어 자신의 목에 직접 걸었다.

“I am truly grateful,” Trump said, adding, “This award is one of the greatest honors of my life. Beyond this award, we have saved millions, tens of millions of lives.”

“트럼프 대통령은 "정말 감사합니다. 이 상은 제 인생에서 가장 큰 영예 중 하나입니다. 상을 넘어서 우리는 수백만, 수천만 명의 생명을 구했습니다."고 기쁨을 감추지 못했다.

The Kennedy Center, where the lottery drawing was held, is also considered a place to showcase President Trump's achievements.

조 추첨식이 열린 케네디 센터 역시 트럼프 대통령의 업적을 과시하는 장소로 꼽힙다.

President Trump, who took office as chairman himself, emphasized that the Kennedy Center, which was on the verge of collapse, was undergoing extensive renovations and said, "Look at what a great job they've done."

직접 이사장으로 취임했던 트럼프 대통령은 붕괴 직전인 케네디 센터를 대대적으로 보수하고 있다고 강조하면서 얼마나 훌륭한 일을 했는지 보라고도 말했다.

He also expressed his ambition to make this World Cup an event the world has never seen before.

그러면서 이번 월드컵을 세계가 전에 본 적 없는 수준의 이벤트로 만들겠다는 포부도 밝혔다.
In particular, he hinted at the possibility of deploying troops, saying that he would address security issues in some cities where the games will be held, as was done in Washington D.C., without changing the host city.

특히, 경기가 열릴 일부 도시의 치안 문제와 관련해 개최 도시를 바꾸지 않고 워싱턴 D.C.에서 한 것처럼 문제를 해결할 것이라며, 병력 배치 가능성도 시사했다.

President Trump also said, "If there's a problem by the time we get there, we'll solve it. We can solve it. I've already proven that in Washington, D.C., and everywhere we've been."

트럼프 대통령은 또한 그곳에 갈때까지도 문제가 있다면, 우리가 해결할 것입니다. 해결할 수 있습니다. 저는 워싱턴 D.C. 와 우리가 간 모든 곳에서 그걸 이미 증명했습니다."고 말했다.

The leaders of Mexico and Canada also attended the draw for the North and Central American World Cup, which is being co-hosted by three countries.

3개국이 공동 주최하는 북중미 월드컵 조 추첨식엔 멕시코, 캐나다 정상도 참석했다.

However, some have criticized FIFA's protocol for Trump as excessive, and others have pointed out that the event, which garnered global attention, has become Trump's exclusive platform.

다만, 트럼프에 대한 FIFA의 의전이 과했다는 지적과 함께 세계인의 관심이 쏠린 행사가 트럼프의 독무대가 됐다는 지적도 나오고 있다.

We look forward to the successful hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held alternately in the United States, Canada, and Mexico on June 12, 19, and 25. (End)

내년 2026년 미국과 케나다, 멕시코에서 6월 12일, 19일, 25일 번갈아 개최되는 월드컵 축구를 성공적으로 개최 되길 기대해 본다.(끝)
