On the 27th (local time), White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed deep gratitude during a regular briefing for the heroic dedication of U.S. Secret Service agents, who protected the President and attendees amidst a horrific threat during the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night an incident marking the third attempted assassination against President Trump.

27일(현지시간), 캐롤라인 레빗 백악관 대변인은 27일(현지시간) 정례브리핑에서 토요일밤 백악관 출입기자단 만찬에서 발생한 트럼프 대통령에 대한 세 번째 암살 시도 사건과 관련하여, 끔찍한 위협속에서도 대통령과 참석자들을 지켜낸 미국 비밀경호국(Secret Service) 요원들의 영웅적인 헌신에 깊은 감사를 표한다고 밝혔다.

She noted that although the gunman sprinted at full speed, he was swiftly apprehended by the Secret Service shortly thereafter; she commended the Secret Service for their efforts and announced that measures to further enhance security are currently being explored.

그러면서 총격범이 전력으로 질주했지만 결국 얼마못가서 비밀경호국에 의해 즉각 잡혔다며, 비밀경호국의 노고에 대해 치하했고 더욱 보안을 강화하는 것을 모색하고 있다고 밝혔다.

Press Secretary Leavitt  strongly criticized the extreme hate rhetoric and demonization employed by certain Democratic lawmakers and media outlets, arguing that they have incited and justified such "political violence," and urged that they cease immediately.

레빗 대변인은 일부 민주당 의원들과 언론의 극단적인 혐오 수사와 악마화가 이러한 ‘정치적 폭력’을 부추기고 정당화했다고 강력히 비판하며 이를 멈출 것을 촉구했다.

Continuing, she noted that in light of the events of Saturday night Americans have likely given deep thought to the issue of safety, and stated that the budget for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must be passed expeditiously to ensure the security of the United States and its people.

이어 토요일밤 사건을 보고 여러분이 안전에 대해 깊이 생각해 봤을거라고 지적하면서 미국과 미국민의 안전을 위해 조속히 DHS에 대한 예산이 통과되어야 한다고 밝혔다.

Press Secretary Leavitt also called upon the U.S. Congress to provide immediate budgetary support to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) which has faced budget cuts for 73 days and emphasized the national security importance of constructing a new White House banquet hall to ensure the safety of individuals within the line of presidential succession.

레빗대변인은 또한 미 의회를 향해 73일째 예산이 삭감된 국토안보부(DHS)에 대한 즉각적인 예산 지원을 요구하고, 권력 승계 서열에 있는 인사들의 안전을 보장하기 위한 백악관 연회장 신설의 국가안보적 중요성을 강조했다.

He added that since the President frequently conducts numerous events outdoors a practice that heightens security risks and places an increased burden on the Secret Service the completion of the currently under-construction White House ballroom will significantly enhance safety; furthermore, she noted that this new facility will serve as a venue essential for national security, becoming the largest and most secure ballroom in the world.

대통령이 수많은 행사를 밖에서 진행할 경우 안전에 노출될 확률이 많고 비밀경호국의 일이 더 과중되기 때문에 현재 공사중인 백악관 볼룸이 완공되면 한층 안전할 것이라면, 백악관의 새 볼룸은 국가안보에 필요한 장소로 세계에서 제일 크고 안전한 볼룸이 될것이라고 덧붙였다.

Investing heavily in national security and the safety of the public is by no means excessive. In the wake of this incident, an increasing number of Americans now feel a profound urgency for the budgets of the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service to be resolved swiftly. (End)
