Chaos erupted at the White House annual correspondents' dinner following a shooting incident.

백악관 연례 기자단 만찬장에서 총격사건이 발생해 아수라장이 되었다.

On the evening of the 25th (local time), around 8:30 p.m., a shooting incident occurred at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., during the annual dinner with the President hosted by the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA).

25일(현지시간) 저녁 8시30분쯤 워싱턴 디시 힐튼호텔에서 열린 백악관 출입기자단(WHCA) 협회가 주관하는 대통령과의 연례 만찬 행사장에서 총격사건이 발생했다.

Fox News reported on the 26th (local time) that world leaders have condemned the “unacceptable” violence that disrupted a White House press briefing, expressing concern over acts of violence directed at politicians holding opposing political views.

세계 지도자들은 무장 공격이 백악관 기자 만탄을 방해한 후 “용납할 수 없는” 폭력을 규탄한다’며, 정치적으로 서로 반대입장에있는 정치인에 대한  폭력행위를 우려하고 있다고 26일(현지시간) Fox 뉴스가 보도하고 있다.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. after President Trump had made his entrance and the national anthem ceremony had concluded—when attendees were dining, and several sounds suspected to be gunshots were heard.

사건은 트럼프 대통령 입장 후 국가 연주 의식이 끝나고, 참석자들이 식사하고 있던 저녁8시 30분쯤 총격으로 추정되는 소리가 몇 차례 들렸다.
Immediately, Secret Service agents leaped onto the stage, shouting, “Shots fired!”

곧바로 비밀경호국(SS) 요원들이 무대 위로 뛰어오르며 “총격 발생”이라고 외쳤다.

Key figures including President Trump, First Lady Melania, and Vice President Pence who were dining at the head table on the stage, took cover beneath their table before being escorted by the Secret Service to safety at the rear of the venue.

무대 헤드테이블에서 식사 중이던 트럼프 대통령과 멜라니아 여사, 밴스 부통령 등 주요 인사들은 테이블 아래로 몸을 숨겼다가 비밀경호국의 인도를 받아 행사장 뒤로 피신했다.

Subsequently, key government officials also successively evacuated under the guidance of the Presidential Security Service.

No injuries were reported among the attendees, including key government figures present at the banquet as well as members of the press.

뒤이어 주요 관료들도 잇다라 경호국의 안내를 받아 피신했다.
만찬에 참석한 정부 주요인사를 비롯해 취재진 등 참석자 중 다친 사람은 없었다.

The event was attended by key officials, including U.S. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance, as well as members of major media outlets covering the White House and the White House Correspondents' Association.

이날 행사에는 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령과 영부인 멜라니아 여사, JD 밴스 부통령 등 주요 각료들이 참석했고,  백악관을 담당하는 주요 언론사 취재진 및 백악관 기자단 협회 멤버들이 함께 참석했다.

Following the gunshot, the scene inside the banquet hall was sheer chaos—a state of pure terror, as no one could actually verify what was unfolding around them.

총소리 이후 만찬장내의 상황은 그야말로 우왕좌왕 실제 어떤 상화이 전재되고 있는 것을 확인하지 못한채 두려움 그 자체였다.

Secret Service agents rushed onto the stage, shouting, "Shots fired!" President Trump, First Lady Melania, Vice President Pence, and other key figures—who were dining at the head table on the stage took cover beneath the table before being evacuated to the rear of the venue by Secret Service agents.

비밀 경호국(SS) 요원들이 무대 위로 뛰어 오르며 “총격 발생”이라고 외쳤고, 무대 헤드테이블에서 식사 중이던 트럼프 대통령과 멜라니아 여사, 밴스 부통령 등 주요 인사들은 테이블 아래로 몸을 숨겼다가 비밀경호국 요원들에 의해 행사장 뒤로 피신했다.

President Trump immediately returned to the White House and held a press conference regarding the incident in the White House Briefing Room. During the press conference, the President reported that one agent had been shot but was unharmed thanks to the bulletproof vest he was wearing.

트럼프 대통령은 즉각 백악관으로 돌아와 백악관 브리핑실에서 이 사건에 대해 기자회견을 개최했다. 대통령은 기자회견에서 요원 1명이 총에 맞았지만 방탄조끼를 착용한 덕분에 무사하다고 전했다.

The President emphasized that this incident constituted a political transgression, stating, “Whether Republican or Democrat, there should be no politics that seek to divide us.”

대통령은, “공화당이던 민주당이던 서로 갈라치기를 하는 정치는 없어야 한다.”고 말하면서 이번사건이 정치적 위반이라는걸 강조했다.

When asked by a reporter whether the incident appeared to be linked to Iran, he stated that the individual in question suffered from “very severe mental health issues” and that, as such, there did not appear to be any connection to Iran. However, he added that the matter would only become clear following an investigation.

“이번 사건이 이란과 연계된 것으로 보이냐”는 기자의 질문에, “그가 정신적으로 아주 심각한 문제가 있는 사람”이라며 이란과는 관련이 있는 것으로 보이진 않는다고 말했다. 다만 수사를 해봐야 확실해질 것이라고 덧붙였다.

President Trump pointed out that this incident exposed a security vulnerability, noting that the location—situated outdoors—is a venue where key figures, including the President, frequently gather.

트럼프 대통령은 이번사건은 대통령을 비롯해 주요인사들이 모이는장소로소 외부에 있는 장소이며, 보안이 노출된  허점을 지적했다.

At the same time, he spared no praise for the Secret Service's swift response to the incident, commending them for their effective handling of security matters.

그러면서 이번 사건에 대해 비밀경호국이 신속하게 움직인데 대해, 안전문제을 잘하고 있다고 칭찬을 아끼지 않았다.

President Trump, noting that this shooting incident targeted him and key officials and having already survived several assassination attempts maintains a composed demeanor; however, he has not let go of his anger toward the gunman.

트럼프 대통령은 이번 총격사건이 자신및 주요관료들을 노렸다는 점에서 이미 자신이 몇번의 암살을 경험했기 때문에 태연한 자세를 보이고 있지만, 총격범에 대한 분노를 내려 놓지 않았다.

Meanwhile, FBI Director Patel was observed continuing to direct operations on-site while ensuring President Trump's personal security.

한편 파텔 연방수사국장은 현장에서 계속 지휘를 하면서 트럼프 대통령의 신변을 보호하는 것이 포착되었다.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator was immediately arrested and identified as Cole Thomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. A graduate of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), he is known as both an educator having received the "Teacher of the Month" award in 2024 and a video game developer.

한편 범인은 바로 체포 되었으며, 캘리포니아주 토렌스 출신의 콜 토마스 앨런(31)으로, 캘리포니아 공대를 졸업했고, 24년도에는 “이달의 교사 상”을 받은 교육자”(teacher)이자 “비디오 게임 개발자”라고 알려졌다.

The perpetrator had checked into the Hilton Hotel two days prior to map out the movement patterns within the banquet hall; he was an individual of a dangerous disposition who came perilously close to actually infiltrating the venue itself. The perpetrator, Cole a Democrat had previously attended the "No Kings" event, which was critical of President Trump, and is reported to have targeted cabinet members whose political leanings stood in stark contrast to his own.

범인은 이틀전 힐튼호텔에 투숙해서 만찬장의 동선을 파악했고, 하마터면 만찬장안에 까지 들어 왔을수 있는 위험한 성향을 가진 자였다. 범인 콜은 민주당원으로 트럼프 대통령을 싫어하는 “No Kings” 행사에도 참석했던 것이며, 자신의 정치적 성향과 대조적인 성향을 가진 각료들도 제거 대상으로 삼은것으로 알려졌다.

His LinkedIn profile where his name and photo matched—indicated that he was working as a part-time instructor at C2 Education, a test preparation and tutoring company. According to the company’s social media posts, they named Allen their “Instructor of the Month” in December 2024.

그의 이름과 사진이 일치하는 구인구직 사이트 링크드인 프로필에는 그가 시험 준비 및 과외 회사인 C2 에듀케이션에서 시간제 강사로 일하고 있다고 나와 있었다. 이 업체의 소셜미디어(SNS) 게시물에 따르면 업체는 2024년 12월 앨런을 ‘이달의 강사’로 선정했다.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Alan received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 and a master's degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills, last year.

링크드인 프로필에 따르면 앨런은 2017년 캘리포니아 공과대학에서 기계공학 학사 학위를 받았고, 지난해 캘리포니아 주립대학교 도밍게즈 힐스 캠퍼스에서 컴퓨터 과학 석사 학위를 받았다.

He was even featured in local news in 2017 while a student at the California Institute of Technology for developing a prototype of an emergency brake for wheelchairs.

그는 캘리포니아 공과대학 학생 시절인 2017년에 휠체어용 비상 브레이크 시제품을 개발한 공로로 지역 뉴스에 보도되기도 했다.

Acting Police Chief Carroll, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and President Trump stated that the suspect appears, at this time, to have acted alone, and that investigative authorities are currently searching his apartment.

캐럴 경찰청장 대행과 뮤리엘 바우저 워싱턴DC 시장, 그리고 트럼프 대통령은 용의자가 현재로서는 단독 범행을 저지른 것으로 보인다며 수사 당국이 그의 아파트를 수색 중이라고 전했다.

President Trump stated, “He is someone with very serious mental issues,” adding that he does not appear to have any connection to Iran. However, he added that this would become clear only after an investigation.

트럼프 대통령은 “그가 정신적으로 아주 심각한 문제가 있는 사람”이라며 이란과는 관련이 있는 것으로 보이진 않는다고 말했다. 다만 수사를 해봐야 확실해질 것이라고 덧붙였다.

Observing the perpetrator’s targeting of this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, I drew the following conclusions: First, it revealed the fragile state of the American psyche one deeply fractured by the partisan divide between Democrats and Republicans. Second, under no circumstances should one resort to the dangerous act of seeking power through the barrel of a gun. Third, the budget allocated for the protection of the President, key cabinet members, and officials responsible for national security must be increased. Fourth, significant events involving the President should be held within the confines of the White House, rather than at external venues.

이번 백악관 기자단 만찬장을 범인이 노린것을 보면서, 첫째, 민주당과 공화당 양분으로 갈라진 미국인들의 나약한 정신을 파악할수 있었다. 둘째, 어떤형태로든 총구에서 권력을 찾으려는 위험한 일을 해서는 않된다. 셋째, 대통령과 중요한 각료들, 국가안보를 책임지고 있는 인사들을 보호하기 위한예산을 확대해야 한다. 넷째, 대통령과의 중요한 행사를 외부 장소가 아닌 백악관 내의 장소에서 개최해야 한다.

This serves as a valuable lesson, particularly at a time when the Department of Homeland Security is currently facing a shutdown due to budgetary issues. Furthermore, given the criticism surrounding the ongoing expansion of the White House Ballroom, it is imperative to carefully reflect upon the critical necessity of maintaining robust security measures.
