On the 12th, North Korean Kim Jong-un was reported to have ordered the expansion of production of North Korea's new 240mm multiple rocket launcher and strengthening of combat power while inspecting important defense industrial enterprises under the Second Economic Committee. Kim Jong-un declared that the 240mm multiple rocket launchers would be aimed at the South Korean metropolitan area and the U.S. military, and announced that he would deploy new multiple rocket launchers in the All People's Army and prepare for war.

북한 김정은은 지난 12일 제2경제위원회 산하 중요 국방공업기업소들을 시찰하면서 북한의 신형 240mm 방사포 생산 확대와 전투력강화를 지시했다고 보됐다. 김정은은 240mm 방사포는 한국 수도권과 미군을 겨냥할 것이라고 선언하면서 전인민군대에 새 방사포를 배치하고 전쟁준비태세에 임할것이라고 발표했다.

Military experts analyzed that North Korea appears to be attempting to equip existing artillery shells with control wings equipped with a location information system (GPS) to provide guidance functions, and the range of existing artillery shells is known to be up to 60km.

군 전문가들은 북한이 기존 포탄에 위치정보시스템(GPS)을 갖춘 조종 날개를 장착해 유도 기능까지 갖추려는 것으로 보인다고 분석하면서 기존 포탄의 사거리는 최대 60Km로 알려졌다.

Some analysts say that the reason Kim Jong-un is accelerating the performance improvement of 240mm multiple rocket launchers is because North Korea, which has been exporting 122mm multiple rocket launchers to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, intends to export new 240mm multiple rocket launchers as well.

김정은이 240mm 방사포탄 성능 개량에 속도를 내는 이유는 러시아의 우크라이나 침공에 122mm 방사포탄 등을 수출하고 있는 북한이 240mm신형 방사포탄까지 수출하려는 의도라는 분석도 나오고 있다.

Regarding the threat of North Korea's new 240mm multiple rocket launcher, the Pentagon said on the 14th, "We are clearly cooperating very closely with our regional allies South Korea and Japan on regional threats, including the threat from North Korea."

펜타곤은 14일 북한의 240mm 신형 방사포 위협과 관련해 “우리는 분명 북한의 위협을 포함한 역내 위협에 대해 역내 동맹인 한국 및 일본과 매우 긴밀히 협력하고 있다”고 밝혔다.

In response to my question, Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder said at a briefing on the 14th, "Can you comment on North Korea's announcement that it is deploying a new 240mm multiple rocket launcher to the People's Army and preparing for combat, and that it will target U.S. forces in the Korean Peninsula?"

he said, “It is clear that we are working very closely with our South Korean and Japanese allies in the region on regional threats, including those that North Korea may pose,” added “We are certainly not seeking conflict with North Korea.” “We remain committed to ensuring regional security and stability through extended deterrence efforts as well as continued collaboration with like-minded partners across the Indo-Pacific region,”

QUESTION:(Janne Pak): Thank you, General. North Korea announced that it has deployed the new 244-millimeter multiple rocket launcher to the people's army and is preparing combat. And Kim Jong Un declared that he will target the Korean peninsula and the U.S. military unit. Can you comment on this?

RYDER): You know, look, Janne, we obviously continue to work very closely with our ROK and Japanese allies in the region when it comes to regional threats to include those -that may be posed by North Korea. We certainly aren't seeking conflict with North Korea. And we're going to continue to do everything we can to ensure regional security and stability in the region through our extended deterrence efforts, but also through continuing to work with like-minded partners throughout the Indo-Pacific region. “우리는 분명 북한의 위협을 포함한 역내 위협에 대해 역내 동맹인 한국 및 일본과 매우 긴밀히 협력하고 있다”고 밝혔습니다.
