On January 27th (local time), President Trump held a question-and-answer session with White House reporters while waiting to board Marine One, his presidential helicopter, on the South Lawn of the White House before departing for Iowa to discuss economic issues.
트럼프 대통령은 27일(현지시간) 백악관 사우스롼에서 경제이슈를 위해 아이오와주로 향하기 위해 전용기인 마린원 헬리콥터에 탑승하기 전 대기중인 백악관 취재기자들과 질의응답을 가졌다.
When I asked President Trump, " Mr. President, Are you going to raise tariffs on South Korea?", he repeatedly stated, "We will work something out“_ “We will work something out with South Korea.“
트럼프 대통령은 “대통령님, 한국에 관세를 인상 할 것입니까?”라는 나의 질문을 받고 “우리는 해결책을 찾을 것이다”.-”우리는 한국과 해결책을 찾을 것이다.”고 트럼프 대통령은 거듭 밝혔다.
Earlier, on January 26th, President Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that the South Korean legislature was not upholding its agreements with the United States, and that he would reinstate tariffs and reciprocal tariffs of 25% on items such as automobiles, lumber, and pharmaceuticals.
앞서 트럼프 대통령은 전날인 26일 자신의 Truth Social에 한국 입법부가 한국과 미국과의 합의를 지키지 않고 있다면서 자동차와 목재, 의약품 등에 대한 품목별 관세와 상호관세를 다시 25% 인상 한다고 밝혔다.
The South Korean government stated that President Trump imposed the tariff increase unexpectedly, and regarding President Trump's statement today that "we will work out a solution with South Korea," they are reporting it as if Trump's tariff increase was withdrawn within a day.
한국정부는 이에 대해 트럼프 대통령이 기습적인 관세 인상을 했다고 말했으며, 오늘 트럼프 대통령이 “우리는 한국과 해결책을 마련할 것이다.”고 밝힌데 대해, 트럼프의 관세인상이 하루만에 철회 된것처럼 보도하고 있다.
President Trump had already hinted at the implementation of tariff negotiations through the U.S. Embassy in South Korea several weeks ago. This shows that the tariff increase announcement was not a surprise, as the South Korean government claims.
트럼프 대통령은 몇주전 주한 미대사관을 통해 이미 관세협상 이행에 대해 암시를 해 왔었다. 한국정부가 말하는 트럼프 대통령의 기습적인 관세인상 발표가 아님을 알수 있다.
We cannot help but be concerned about the repercussions of the South Korean government's complacent attitude towards fulfilling its promises.
한국정부의 약속 이행에 대한 안일한 생각이 가져올 파장에 대해 우려하지 않을수 없다.
The United States has been patient for six months regarding South Korea's tariff commitments. If the South Korean government continues to fail to fulfill its promises, South Korea will have to pay a greater price.
미국은 한국의 관세 약속에 대해 6개월동안 인내해 왔다. 한국정부의 약속 불이행이 계속 될 경우 한국은 더큰 대가를 치러야 할 것이다.
U.S. Treasury, Commerce, and Trade Secretaries have all voiced criticism of the South Korean government. They stated that the U.S. will not make any changes unless the South Korean legislature ratifies the agreement. The National Security Council also stated that any dialogue with South Korea regarding its failure to fulfill its commitments would be for confirmation purposes only, not for renegotiation.
미국 재무,상무,무역 장관들이 일제히 한국정부에 대해 비판의 목소리를 내고 있다. 한국이 입법부의 비준이 없는한 미국은 어떠한 변화도 없을것이다고 밝혔다. 국가안보회의 역시 한국이 약속을 불이행한데 대해 한국과 대화를 한다해도 확인차원이 될것이지 재협상은 아니다고 밝혔다.
Although the exact date for the tariff increase has not yet been set, it is expected to be published in the official gazette soon.
관세인상의 정확한 날짜는 아직 정해지지 않았지만, 곧 관보에 실리게 될 것이라는 관측이다.
I want to ask about the Lee Jae-myung administration's excuse that they haven't been able to get the tariff increase approved because the opposition party hasn't ratified it. The ruling Democratic Party has over 190 members of parliament, and they've passed every bill so far without the consent of the opposition People Power Party. Now, to shift the blame for the tariff increase onto the opposition is a cowardly act.
이재명 정부가 한국 야당이 비준을 안해줘서 아직 동의를 넘지 못하고 있다는 핑계를 대고 있는데 대해 묻고 싶다. 집권당인 민주당 의원수가 190명 이상 되고 여태까지 모든 법안을 야당인 국민의힘당의 동의없이도 집권당 마음대로 통과시켰는데 이제와서 관세인상이 야당때문이라고 책임을 떠 넘긴다는것은 비겁한 행위이다.
In reality, South Korea is currently going through a difficult economic period, facing foreign currency depletion and a rising dollar exchange rate. If Lee Jae-myung fails to keep his promises to the United States, South Korea will suffer disadvantages, and those consequences will ultimately fall on the Korean people.
실제로 한국은 현재 외화 고갈과 달러인상등 경제가 어려운 시기이다. 이재명이 미국과의 약속을 지키지 않는다면 불이익을 당할 것이고 그것은 고스란히 한국국민의 몫이 된다.
Lee Jae-myung should not take the trust with the United States lightly, and promises that cannot be kept become lies. The promises made between President Trump and Lee Jae-myung are essentially promises made with the South Korean people as collateral, so they must be made with caution. (End)
