Trump says Mideast allies have reached outlines of deal to end Iran war, says US to stop new strikes

President Trump says Mideast allies have reached outlines of deal to end Iran war, says US to stop new strikes

트럼프 대통령은 중동 동맹국들이 이란과의 전쟁을 종식하기 위한 합의의 윤곽을 잡았으며, 미국은 추가 타격을 중단할 것이라고 밝혔다.

In a social media post on the evening of the 1st (local time), President Trump stated that Middle Eastern allies had reached a point where an agreement to end the conflict with Iran was within reach, and announced that he would hold off on ordering new attacks in the five-month-long standoff.

트럼프 대통령은 1일(현지시간) 저녁 소셜미디어에 올린 글에서 중동 동맹국들이 이란 전쟁을 끝내기 위한 합의의 한계점에 도달했다고 주장하며 5개월간 지속된 분쟁에서 새로운 공격 명령을 보류하겠다고 밝혔다.

President Trump added that any new agreement would include "the immediate, total, and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat."

트럼프 대통령은 새로운 협정에는 “호르무즈 해협의 즉각적이고 완전하며 완전한 개방과 이란의 핵 위협 종식을 포함할 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

"In response to this request, I agreed to call off the attack for the sake of a successful and prosperous Iran as well as the future interests of the world provided that a swift agreement can be reached," President Trump said.

트럼프 대통령은 “이 요청에 따라 나는 세계의 미래 이익과 마찬가지로 성공적이고 번영하는 이란의 생존을 위해 공격을 취소하기로 합의했다”며 “빠른 협상이 타결될 수 있을 경우에 한한다”고 말했다.

He also said that Israel had agreed to join the United States in finalizing an agreement with Iran to end the war.

그는 또한  이스라엘이 전쟁을 종식시킬 이란과의 협정을 완성하기 위해 미국과 합류하기로 합의했다고 말했다.

This development is drawing attention, coming just a day after President Trump suggested to reporters that there was a distinct possibility of launching a massive military strike to bring the Iranian regime to the negotiating table.

트럼프 대통령은 이란 정권이 협상 테이블에 나오도록 하기 위해 대대적인 군사 공격을 재개할 가능성이 거의 있다고 기자들에게 제안한 지 불과 하루 만에 나온 말이라 귀추가 주목된다.

Iran did not offer any immediate public reaction to Trump’s announcement.

이란은 트럼프 대통령의 발표에 대해 즉각 공개 반응을 보이지 않고있다.

The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. President Trump stated that the objectives were to destroy Iran's missile capabilities, prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons, and halt its support for allied militant groups. However, the stated goals and timelines for the conflict have repeatedly changed.

미국과 이스라엘은 지난 2월 28일 이란을 공격해 전쟁을 시작했다. 트럼프 대통령은 이란의 미사일 능력을 파괴하고, 이란이 핵무기를 보유하는 것을 막고, 동맹 무장단체에 대한 지원을 중단하는 것이 목표라고 말했다. 그러나 분쟁에 대해 명시된 목표와 일정은 반복적으로 바뀌었다.

The interim agreement reached in mid-June was intended to halt hostilities and pave the way for a permanent deal, but it collapsed within weeks as Iran resumed attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

6월 중순에 체결된 임시 합의는 전투를 중단하고 영구적인 거래의 길을 닦을 예정이었지만 이란이 호르무즈 해협에서 선박에 대한 공격을 재개하면서 몇 주 만에 무너졌다.

This announcement follows a phone call between President Trump and the Saudi Crown Prince.

이번 발표는 트럼프 대통령이 사우디 왕세자와 통화한 이후 나온 것이다.

According to sources familiar with discussions among Saudi leaders, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman the Kingdom's de facto ruler raised concerns about the potential for escalating tensions with Iran during a phone call with President Trump last Saturday.

사우디 지도자들의 논의에 정통한 소식통에 따르면, 사우디 왕국의 실질적인 지도자인 무함마드 빈 살만 왕세자는 지난 토요일 트럼프 대통령과의 전화 통화에서 미국이 이란과의 갈등을 고조시킬 가능성에 대한 우려를 제기했다고 한다.

The discussion, first reported by the media outlet Axios, took place as President Trump weighed whether to launch a new attack on Iran.

언론매체 액시오스(Axios)가 처음 보도한 이 논의는 트럼프 대통령이 이란에 대한 새로운 공격을 감행할지 여부를 놓고 고민하는 가운데 나왔다.

Saudi Arabia is reportedly concerned that if the United States targets Iran's energy infrastructure or launches large-scale attacks on bridges or power plants, Tehran could retaliate by striking the energy infrastructure of the Kingdom and other Gulf states.

사우디는 미국이 이란의 에너지 인프라를 표적으로 삼거나 교량이나 발전소에 대규모 공격을 가할 경우 테헤란이 사우디 왕국과 다른 걸프 국가의 에너지 인프라를 공격해 대응할 수 있다는 점을 우려하고 있다고 한다.

The source said the Crown Prince asked President Trump during a call on Saturday to clarify what potential new measures might be taken against Iran.

왕세자는 토요일 통화에서 트럼프 대통령에게 이란에 대해 어떤 잠재적인 새로운 조치를 취할 것인지 명확하게 해달라고 요청했다고 이 소식통은 전했다.

Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia joined the U.S. in striking several military facilities and weapons depots used by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, but it has been urging both the U.S. and Iran to return to the negotiating table to find a definitive resolution to the conflict.

이번 주 초 사우디아라비아는 미국과 합류해 이란이 지원하는 이라크 민병대가 사용하는 여러 군수시설과 무기 기지를 공격했지만 미국과 이란에게 분쟁의 최종 해결책을 찾기 위해 협상 테이블로 돌아갈 것을 촉구해 왔다.

On Wednesday, the Crown Prince also dispatched his brother, Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, to Washington to hold separate meetings with President Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance to discuss strategy regarding Iran.

왕세자는 또한 수요일 자신의 형인 칼리드 빈 살만 사우디 국방장관을 워싱턴으로 파견해 트럼프 대통령과 JD 밴스 부통령과의 별도 회담을 갖고 이란 전략을 논의했다.

Meanwhile, President Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House their first meeting since the war began last February. The Israeli leader urged President Trump to continue the war against Iran.

그리고 트럼프 대통령은 지난 2월 전쟁 개시 이후 처음으로 백악관에서 베냐민 네타냐후 이스라엘 총리를 만났습니다. 이스라엘 지도자는 트럼프 대통령에게 이란과의 전쟁을 계속할 것을 촉구했다.

Earlier in the day, the U.S. State Department issued new security alerts for Americans in 10 countries in the region to exercise heightened caution due to the escalating tensions with Iran.

이날 오전 미 국무부는 이란과의 긴장이 고조됨에 따라 역내 10개국 미국인들에게 더욱 강화된 주의를 기울이도록 새로운 보안 경보를 발령했다.

The warnings covering Bahrain, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates — urged U.S. citizens to prepare for the possibility of flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures and other travel disruptions.

바레인, 이스라엘, 이라크, 요르단, 쿠웨이트, 레바논, 오만, 카타르, 사우디아라비아, 아랍에미리트에 대한 경고는 미국 시민들에게 항공편 취소, 임시 영공 폐쇄 및 기타 여행 중단 가능성에 대비할 것을 촉구했다.

Meanwhile, as Iran launched a new attack in the Persian Gulf, the Kuwaiti military announced on Saturday that it had responded to an Iranian drone strike; Major General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, a spokesman for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense, stated that the drones had struck "several key facilities," including government buildings in northern Kuwait, though he reported no casualties.

한편. 이란이 걸프만에서 새로운 공격 을 실시하면서, 쿠웨이트 군은 토요일 이란의 드론 공격에 대응했다고 밝혔으며,쿠웨이트 국방부 대변인 사우드 압둘아지즈 알 오타이비(Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi) 소장은 성명을 통해 드론이 쿠웨이트 북부의 정부 건물을 포함해 "여러 핵심 시설"을 타격했다고 말했다. 하지만 인명피해는 없다고 밝혔다.

The British Royal Navy stated on Saturday that an oil tanker was attacked and a separate explosion occurred near a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, off the coast of Oman. It reported no casualties in either incident.

영국 해군은 토요일 오만 해안 호르무즈 해협에서 유조선 한 척이 공격을 받았고 선박 근처에서 별도의 폭발이 발생했다고 밝혔다. 두 사건 모두 인명 피해는 보고되지 않았다고 밝혔다.

The UK Maritime Trade Organization stated on Friday that an unidentified projectile struck a vessel 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman, damaging the ship's engine room.

영국 해상 무역 기구(UK Maritime Trade Organization)는 금요일 오만 리마에서 북동쪽으로 11해리 떨어진 해상에서 정체를 알 수 없는 발사체가 선박에 충돌했고,  이 공격으로 선박의 엔진실이 손상되었다고 밝혔다.(끝)
