President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy held a meeting in the Oval Office at the White House on the 28th (local time) and discussed a production license for Patriot interceptor missiles, as well as several other potentially helpful measures.

트럼프 대통령과 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령은 28일(현지 시간) 벡악관 오발호피스에서 회담을 갖고 패트리엇 요격미사일 생산 라이선스와 도움이 될 수 있는 몇 가지 다른 방안에 대해 논의했다”고 밝혔다.

Although the two leaders arrived in Washington grappling with different wars, Iran served as a common denominator. While Prime Minister Netanyahu called for halting Iran's nuclear weapons development and urged continued U.S. engagement regarding Iran, President Zelenskyy highlighted the fact that Ukraine is effectively fighting on the same front against not only Russia but also Iran—a key military backer of Russia.

두 정상은 각각 다른 전쟁을 안고 워싱턴을 찾았지만 공통분모는 이란이었다. 네타냐후 총리가 이란의 핵무기 개발 저지와 미국의 지속적인 대이란 관여를 요구한 가운데, 젤렌스키 대통령도 우크라이나가 러시아뿐 아니라 러시아의 주요 군사 지원국인 이란과 사실상 같은 전선에서 싸우고 있다는 점을 부각했다.

President Zelenskyy announced this on social media, stating, "We also discussed diplomatic matters and agreed on the importance of revitalizing diplomatic processes." He added, "Working-level teams from both sides will coordinate the details for future communication."

젤렌스키 대통령은 이날 자신의 소셜미디어에서 이같이 밝히고 “(트럼프와) 외교 문제도 논의했으며, 외교 절차에 다시 활력을 불어넣는 것이 중요하다는 데 공감했다”고 했다. 그러면서 “양측 실무진이 향후 소통을 위한 세부 사항을 조율할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

The Kyiv Independent reported that, prior to the meeting, a Ukrainian source told the outlet that the two leaders planned to discuss proposing an "aerial truce" to Russia.

회담 전 우크라이나의 한 소식통은 키이우 인디펜던트에 “양 정상이 러시아에 ‘공중전 휴전’을 제안하는 방안을 논의할 예정”이라고 말했다고 키이우 인디펜던트는 보도했다.

The summit is also noteworthy for taking place against the backdrop of a more complex dynamic between the U.S. and Iran, following the attack on an Iranian merchant vessel by Ukraine on the 25th.

이날 정상회담은 지난 25일 우크라이나의 이란 상선 공격으로 미국과 이란의 전쟁 구도가 더 복잡해진 상황에서 열렸다는 점에서도 주목된다.

Throughout the war, Ukraine has strongly alleged a deepening alliance between Russia and Iran, condemning both parties in tandem. From Iran’s perspective, too, Ukraine is an unwelcome presence, given that it has been sharing drone-interception technology with Gulf states following conflicts in the Middle East. Recently, signs of an "expansion of the front" emerged when Ukraine attacked an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea.

우크라이나는 전쟁 과정에서 러시아와 이란의 밀착 의혹을 강하게 주장하며 양측을 싸잡아 비난해왔다. 이란 입장에서도 중동 사태 이후 걸프국들에 드론 요격 기술을 전수해온 우크라이나는 불편한 존재다. 최근엔 우크라이나가 카스피해에서 이란 상선을 공격해 ‘전선 확대’ 조짐을 보이기도 했다.(끝)
