Secretary of State Rubio announced that Operation Epic Fury has concluded, stating, "We do not want any further incidents to occur."

루비오 미 장관은 에픽퓨리 작전은 종결됐다며 “우리는 추가 상황이 발생하지 않기를 원한다.”고 밝혔다.

Secretary of State Rubio held a press conference during a White House briefing on the 5th (local time) to discuss the war with Iran.

루비오 미 국무장관은 5일(현지시간) 백악관 브리핑에서 기자회견을 갖고 이란전쟁에 관해 설명했다.

Secretary Rubio appeared in the White House Briefing Room on this day because White House Press Secretary Levitt was on maternity leave; consequently, the Secretary of State stepped up to the podium personally to conduct the briefing.

이날 루비오 장관이 백악관 브리핑실에 나타난 것은 레빗 백악관 대변인이 출산휴가 중이라 국무장관이 직접 단상에 나와서 브리핑을 진행했다.

Secretary Rubio outlined the U.S.’s firm policy of response to any Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz including the background and operational details of “Project Freedom,” which President Trump announced over the weekend.

루비오 장관은 트럼프 대통령이 주말에 발표한 ‘프로젝트 프리덤’의 배경과 작전 내용 등 이란의 호르무즈해협 봉쇄에 대한 미국의 강경한 대응 방침을 설명했다.

Emphasizing that "Operation Project Freedom" was a defensive rather than an offensive operation, he explained that it was a rescue mission launched to aid approximately 23,000 civilian mariners from 87 nations who had been stranded for over two months; he further disclosed that the operation involved the deployment of U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers, some 100 aircraft, and 15,000 military personnel.

그는 “프로젝트 프리덤” 작전은 공격이 아닌 방어작전이라고 강조하면서 두달 넘게 87개국 출신, 약 23,000명의 민간 선원이 고립되어 있어 이를 위한 구출작전이며 미군 유도미사일 구축함, 항공기 100여대, 장병 1만 5천명 투입등을 밝혔다.

He added, "In the process, U.S. forces sank seven Iranian fast attack craft, and the Iranian navy now lies at the bottom of the sea."

그러면서 미군은 이란 쾌속정 7척을 격침했고, 이란 해군은 이제 바다 밑에 있다.”고 덧붙였다.

Earlier, President Trump also repeatedly stated that Iran has no leader and that its military including its navy, air force, and radar systems has been completely destroyed.

앞서 트럼프 대통령도 이란에는 리더가 없다, 해군, 공군, 레이더 등 군대도 모두 파괴되었다고 반복적으로 밝혔다.

Secretary Rubio stated that the Strait of Hormuz does not belong to Iran, noting that the Iranian economy the very party responsible for blockading the strait is in a dire state, suffering daily losses of $500 million and facing an inflation rate of 70%.

루비오 장관은 호르무즈해협은 이란의 소유가 아니다면서 호르무즈해협을 봉쇄한 당사자인 이란 경제도 하루 5억 달러 손실, 인플레이션 70%로 경제가 최악의 상태라고 말했다.

He also emphasized, “If Iran possessed nuclear weapons, it would have used them against the entire world to do what it is currently doing in the strait.”

그는 또한 “이란이 핵무기를 가졌다면, 지금 해협에서 하는 짓을 핵무기로 전 세계에 했을 것이다.”고 강조했다.

Secretary Rubio warned, “At least under President Trump, do not test America’s resolve.” He went on to point out the incompetence of the United Nations, stating, “The highest echelons of the Iranian regime are not in their right minds,” and adding, “If the UN cannot even issue a condemnation, it has no reason to exist.”

루비오 장관은 “적어도 트럼프 대통령 아래서는 미국의 의지를 시험하지 마라”고 경고했다. 그러면서 “이란정권의 최고위층은 정신이 정사이 아니다”며 “규탄조차 하지 못한다면 UN은 존재 의미가 없다.”고 말하면서 유엔의 무능함을 지적하기도 했다.

Regarding the agreement with Iran, Secretary Rubio stated, “What President Trump seeks is not a final agreement, but rather the drafting of a memorandum of understanding that outlines key issues and the scope of concessions for future negotiations.”

루비오 장관은 이란과의 합의문에 대해, “트럼프 대통령이 원하는 것은 최종 합의문이 아니라, 향후 협상을 위한 핵심 쟁점과 양보 범위를 담은 양해각서를 마련하는 것이다.”고 밝혔다.

Ultimately, it is a foregone conclusion that the war must be brought to an end in one form or another, and it can also be anticipated that negotiations will continue following its conclusion.

결국 어떤형태로든 전쟁을 끝내야 하는 것은 기정사실이며, 종전후 협상이 계속 될 것도 예측해 볼수 있다.

With the U.S. and Iran holding contrasting—yet seemingly converging—views regarding the prospects of a final agreement, it is anticipated that a resolution will be reached in the near future. (End)
