Secretary of War Pete Hegseth declared that all military objectives in Iran have been achieved and that the United States has secured an overwhelming victory.

피트 헤그세스 전쟁부장관은 이란에서의 모든 군사목표를 달성했으며, 미국이 압도적 승리를 거뒀다고 선언했다.

Speaking at a press conference at the Pentagon on the 8th (local time), Secretary Hegseth stated, "Operation 'Epic Fury' was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield," adding, "It decimated the Iranian military, rendering it incapable of combat for years to come."

헤그세스 장관은 8일(현지시간) 펜타곤에서 가진 기자회견에서 "에픽 휴리(Epic Fury)” 작전은 전장에서 거둔 역사적이고 압도적 승리였다"며 "이란 군대를 초토화시켜 향후 수년간 전투 능력을 상실하게 만들었다"고 말했다.

He added, "U.S. forces, together with their Israeli partners, achieved all objectives on schedule and as planned," citing the Iranian Navy, air defense networks, missile programs, and defense industrial base.

그러면서 "미군은 이스라엘 파트너들과 함께 계획대로 일정에 맞춰 모든 목표를 달성했다"며 이란 해군, 방공망, 미사일 프로그램, 방위산업 기반을 언급했다.

He specifically added, "Last night just prior to the brokering of the ceasefire we succeeded in completely destroying the Iranian defense industry infrastructure, the central axis of the operation, through more than 800 airstrikes."

특히 휴전 성사 직전인 "어젯밤 800여차례에 걸친 공습을 통해 우리는 작전의 핵심 축인 이란 방위 산업 기반을 완전히 파괴하는데 성공했다"고 덧붙였다.

Secretary Hegseth stated that Iran would never be permitted to possess nuclear weapons and that all nuclear materials currently in its possession would be removed. He added that, depending on the circumstances, the uranium could potentially be transported out of the country.

헤그세스 장관은 이란은 결코 핵무기를 보유할 수 없으며, 현재 보유한 핵물질도 모두 제거될 것이라고 밝혔다. 그러면서 경우에 따라서는 우라늄을 밖으로 가져 나올수도 있다고 말했다.

Secretary Hegseth emphasized, "They are well aware that, under this agreement, they can never possess nuclear weapons," adding, "In accordance with the terms of the agreement, all nuclear materials they are not permitted to possess will be removed. Their nuclear waste is buried deep underground and is under constant aerial surveillance, 24 hours a day."

According to expert analysis, during the first four weeks of attacks by the United States and Israel, four of Iran's major ballistic missile manufacturing facilities and at least 29 ballistic missile launch sites were damaged, thereby undermining Iran's core military strategy.

전문가들의 분석에 따르면 미국과 이스라엘의 공격 첫 4주 동안 이란의 주요 탄도미사일 제조 시설 중 4곳과 최소 29개의 탄도미사일 발사 장소가 손상돼 이란의 핵심 군사 전략이 약화됐다고 밝혔다.

The four damaged missile manufacturing facilities—the Khojir, Parchin, Hakimieh, and Shahrud military complexes—are sites where critical missile propellants are produced and weapons for operational use are assembled.

손상된 미사일 제조시설 4곳은 코지르, 파르친, 하키미예, 샤라우드 군사 단지로 중요한 미사일 추진체를 생산하고 사용할 무기를 조립하는 곳들이다.

The argument is that the use of nuclear weapons could be rendered impossible by completely destroying the missile facilities designed to launch and deliver them. Jim Walsh, a senior research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, pointed out, “Without propulsion, the missile won’t go anywhere.”

핵무기를 운반해 사용할 미사일 시설을 완전 파괴시킴으로서 핵사용이 불가능할수 있다는 것이다. 제임스 마틴 비확산연구센터의 선임 연구원 짐 램슨은 “추진력이 없다면 미사일은 아무데도 가지 못할 것이다.”고 지적했다.

Secretary Hegseth stated that the United States remains prepared to resume operations at any time, thereby signaling that it is poised for the possibility that negotiations with Iran could collapse following the two-week ceasefire. (End)
