President Trump delivered his State of the Union address on the afternoon of the 24th (local time), marking the start of his second term, before a joint session of the House and Senate.

트럼프 대통령은 임기 2기를 맞아 24일(현지시간, 오후) 워싱턴 DC 의회에서 상.하원이 합동으로 지켜보는 가운데 국정연설을 했다.

President Trump delivered his longest speech of the year, lasting 1 hour and 48 minutes, and received thunderous applause from both chambers.

이번 국정연설에서 트럼프 대통령은 1시간 48동안 최 장 연설을 했으며 상,하원의 많은 박수를 받았다.

In his opening remarks, President Trump declared, "America has returned, bigger, better, richer, and stronger than ever before." He added, "We will continue to do better, and better, and better again." He added, "This is America's golden age."

트럼프 대통령은 연설 서두에서 “미국이 어느 때 보다 더 크고 훌륭한 그리고 부유하고 강해져서 돌아왔다.”고 말했다. 그러면서 “우리는 계속해서 더 나아지고 또 나아질 것이다.”며 “지금이 바로 미국의 황금기”라고 말했다.

President Trump also stated, "In just one year, we've achieved a transformation that no one has ever seen before, a transformation that will last a lifetime." He added, "Our enemies are afraid." He added, "Our military and police are fully prepared, and America is respected again. More respect than ever before." He added, "We'll be celebrating the milestone of the 250th anniversary of our independence in five months."

트럼프 대통령은 또한 “우리는 불과 1년 만에 그 누구도 본 적 없는 변혁을 이뤘고 시대를 초월한 전환을 이뤄냈다.”며 “우리의 적들은 두려워하고 있다.”면서 “군대와 경찰은 완벽한게 준비돼 있고 미국은 다시 존중받고 있다. 그 어느때 보다 더 큰 존중을 받고 있다.”고 밝히면서 “우리는 5개월 뒤 이정표인 미국 독립 250주년을 맞을 것”이고 말했다.

President Trump specifically stated that he would maintain the tariff policy, which was recently ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court. He emphasized, "We've secured hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs, and we've made a great deal for the United States economically and from a national security perspective. We've made a tremendous amount of money. There's been no inflation, and there's been tremendous growth."

트럼프 대통령은 특히 최근 연방 대법원에 의해 위법으로 판결된 관세 정책을 흔들림 없이 계속 유지할 것이라고 밝혔다. 트럼프는 “관세로 수천억 달러를 확보해 미국에 경제적으로, 국가안보 측면에서 훌륭한 합의를 성사시켰고 엄청난 돈을 벌었다”며 “인플레이션은 없었고, 엄청난 성장이 있었다”고 강조했다.

President Trump repeatedly condemned the Supreme Court's ruling on reciprocal tariffs on the 20th, calling it a "deeply regrettable ruling." He added, "But the good news is that nearly every country and company wants to preserve the trade agreements they've already reached." He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining tariff policies using alternative means, including Sections 122 and 301 of the Trade Act and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, by stating, "Tariff revenues will be maintained under fully approved and tested alternative legal provisions."

트럼프 대통령은 지난 20일  연방 대법원의 상호관세 위법 판결에 관해서는  “매우 유감스러운 판결”이라고 거듭 비난하며 “하지만 좋은 소식은 거의 모든 국가와 기업들이 이미 체결한 무역 합의를 유지하고자 한다는 것이다.”고 말했다. 이어 “관세 수익은 완전히 승인되고 검증된 대체 법적 규정에 따라 유지될 것”이라며 무역법 122조·301조, 무역확장법 232조 등 대체 수단을 동원한 관세 정책 고수 입장을 재확인했다.

“This will lead to a much stronger solution than before,” Trump said. “The tariffs paid by foreign countries will replace the income tax system, relieving the American people of a huge financial burden.”

트럼프 대통령은 “이전보다 훨씬 강력한 해결책으로 이어질 것”이라며 “외국이 부담하는 관세는 소득세 제도를 대체하여 국민의 막대한 재정 부담을 덜어줄 것”이라고 했다.

During his State of the Union address, President Trump awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor to retired Navy Admiral Royce Williams, a Korean War veteran. A Navy fighter pilot, Williams was ambushed by seven Soviet fighters during a winter 1952 flight. Despite being outnumbered and seriously wounded after taking 263 bullets from his plane, Williams still managed to shoot down four enemy aircraft and nearly destroy the remaining planes.

트럼프 대통령은 국정연설 도중 한국전 참전 용사인 예비역 해군제독, 로이스 윌리엄스에게 의회 명예 훈장을 수여했다. 1952년 겨울 비행 중 구소련 전투기 7대의 기습을 받은 해군 전투기 조종사 윌리엄스는 당시 수적 열세 속에 자신의 전투기에 263발의 총탄을 맞고 중상을 입은 상태에서도 적기 4대를 격추하고 나머지 적기들도 파괴 직전까지 몰아붙이는 성과를 거뒀다.

President Trump said, "This brave Navy captainl, who turns 100 tonight, is well-deservedly honored," and First Lady Melania Trump presented Williams with the medal. Williams participated in more than 220 aerial combat missions during the Korean War and also served in World War II and the Vietnam War.

트럼프 대통령은 “오늘 밤 100세 생일을 맞은 이 용감한 해군 대위는 마땅한 영예를 받게 된다”고 했고, 대통령 부인 멜라니아 트럼프 여사가 윌리엄스에게 훈장을 목에 걸어 주었다. 윌리엄스는 한국전 때 220회 이상의 공중전에 참여했고 2차 세계대전, 베트남전에도 참전했다.

This reminds me of the Korean War, a war that hasn't ended yet, and it's even more poignant that this is why we must maintain a strong ROK-U.S alliance. (End)
