“President Trump said, "I will increase defense spending to $1 trillion next year, build new battleships similar to World War II-era battleships, and improve housing on bases."

President Trump visited the Fort Bragg Army base in North Carolina with First Lady Melania Trump on the 13th (local time) and spent time with soldiers.

트럼프 대통령은 13일(현지시간) 노스캘로라이나주 소재 포트 브래그(Fort Bragg) 육군기지를 영부인 멜라니아여사와 함께 방문해 장병들과 시간을 가졌다.

President Trump entered the base to the unofficial anthem of the Republican Party, Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA," and concluded his speech with "YMCA" by the Village People, a song he enjoys playing during his speeches.

트럼프 대통령은 미 공화당의 비공식 당가인 리 그린우드의 “하나님이시여, 미국을 축복하소서(God Bless the USA)와 함께 입장했으며, 그가 연설때 마다 즐기는 빌리지 피플의 “YMCA”와 함께 연설을 마무리했다.

In his speech, President Trump mentioned his decision to restore the base's name from Fort Liberty to 'Fort Bragg'.  He emphasized, "If we don't win the midterm elections, they'll take the name away again. We can't let that happen." He then raised his voice and said, “You have to vote for us (the Republican Party).”

트럼프 대통령은 연설에서 자신이 기지 명칭을 포트 리버티에서 '포트 브래그'로 복원한 점을 언급했다. 그러면서 “우리가 중간선거에서 이지지 못하면 그들은 다시 ‘이름’을 없앨 것이다 그런 일이 일어나게 해서는 안 된다.”고 강조했다. 그러면서 “여러분은 우리(공화당)에게 투표해야 한다.”고 목소리를 높였다.

He also said, "We will increase the defense budget to $1 trillion (approximately 1,444 trillion won) next year, build new battleships similar to World War II-era battleships, and promote plans to improve housing on bases."

그는 또한, “내년 국방비를 1조 달러(약 1444조)로 늘리고 제2차 세계대전 시기 전함과 유사한 형태의 신형 전함 건조, 기지 내 주거 개선 계획 등을 추진하겠다.”고  말했다.

Fort Bragg has undergone two name changes in two years amidst political strife in the United States. Established in 1918 as an artillery training camp, Fort Bragg was originally named after General Braxton Bragg, a Confederate commander during the American Civil War.

포트 브래그는 미국 정치 갈등 속에 2년 새 이름이 두 번이나 바뀌었다. 1918년 포병 훈련소로 설립된 포트 브래그는 당초 남북전쟁 당시 남부연합 지휘관으로 활약한 ‘브랙스턴 브래그’ 장군의 이름에서 명칭을 따왔다.

However, in March of this year, Pete Hegseth, the first Secretary of Defense under the Donald Trump administration, reverted both names.

그러나 올 3월 도널드 트럼프 행정부의 피트 헤그세스 초대 국방장관은 두 곳의 명칭을 원상태로 돌렸다.

Less than two years after the Biden administration's name change, Fort Liberty was renamed Fort Bragg, and Fort Benning, a military base in Georgia named after Confederate General Henry Benning, a staunch opponent of the abolition of slavery, was renamed Fort Moore. "Fort Moore" is named after General Hal Moore, who distinguished himself in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Now, "Fort Moore" has been renamed Fort Benning.

과거 바이든 행정부에서 명칭이 바뀐 지 2년도 되지 않아 ‘포트 리버티’는 다시 ‘포트 브래그’로, 노예제 폐지에 끝까지 반대했던 남부연합 장군 헨리 배닝의 이름을 딴 조지아주 군사 기지 ‘포트 배닝(Fort Benning)’의 이름도 ‘포트 무어(Fort Moore)’로 바뀌었다. “포트 무어”는 한국 전쟁과 베트남 전쟁에 참전해 큰 공을 세운 할 무어 장군의 이름에서 따왔다. 이제 ‘포트 무어’는 다시 ‘포트 배닝’으로 변경한 것이다.

President Trump referred to past presidents, saying, "There have been some good ones, but not that many. But we support you more than any of them."

트럼프 대통령은, 역대 대통령들을 가리켜 "좋은 대통령이 몇 명 있긴 했지만 사실 그렇게 많지는 않았다"며 "하지만 우리는 그들 누구보다 여러분을 더 지지한다"고 말했다.

Following his speech, he held a private two-hour meeting with special forces soldiers who participated in the operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. President Trump praised the soldiers and announced that one of them would receive the Medal of Honor.

연설을 마친 뒤에는 니콜라스 마두로 베네수엘라 대통령 체포 작전에 참여한 특수부대 장병들과 2시간가량 비공개 면담을 했다. 트럼프 대통령은 장병들을 치하하며 1명이 명예 훈장을 받게 될 것이라고 말했다.

Most of the soldiers held up their phones to take photos and videos, and when YMCA music played, they cheered and responded to the president. (End).

이날 장병 대부분은 사진이나 동영상을 찍기 위해 휴대전화를 드는등 YMCA 음악이 나오자 대통령을 환호하며 호응했다.(끝)
