The United States and South Korea reached a dramatic agreement in tariff negotiations yesterday. Following the UK, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, the EU, and China, South Korea was the last country to reach an agreement through President Trump's direct intervention.

미국과 한국은 어제 관세협상을 극적으로 타결했다. 영국,베트남,필리핀,인도네시아,EU,중국에 이어 마지막으로 어제 30일 한국과 관세협상을 트럼프 대통령이 직접 개입해서 타결시켰다.

Unlike countries that concluded tariff negotiations with South Korea before, where their leaders held summits with President Trump to explore tariff negotiations, South Korea has so far engaged in one-on-one negotiations with the United States, with working-level officials forming a negotiating team.

한국과 협상하기 이전에 관세협상을 타결한 나라들은 그 나라 정상들이 직접 트럼프 대통령과 정상회담을 개최하면서 관세협상을 타진해 왔던것과는 달리 한국은 지금까지 실무관료들이 협상팀을 이루어 미국과 단판 협상을 해 왔다.

President Trump signed an executive order on tariffs this afternoon (the 31st, local time). He announced that letters would be sent to countries that had not yet negotiated tariffs by midnight tonight, and that the tariffs would be imposed on August 1st.

트럼프 대통령은 오늘(31일, 현지시간) 오후 관세에 관한 행정명령에 서명했다. 그리고 협상을 하지 않은 나라들에게는 오늘밤 0시를 기준으로 일제히 편지가 전달되며 8월1일자 관세를 부과하게 될 것이라고 밝혔다.

In particular, the U.S. is pleased that “President Trump’s priorities” have paid off, as South Korea received a 15% tariff reduction from Trump in this negotiation, and Trump is delighted that the tariffs have “made America a rich country again.”

특히 한국이 이번 협상에서 15%의 낮은 관세를 트럼프로부터 부여받은 것에 대해 미국은 “트럼프 대통령의 우선주의”가 통했고 트럼프는 관세로 인해 “미국이 다시 부자 나라가 되었다.”고 기뻐하고 있다.

On the other hand, South Korea initially offered the US $100 billion, but added a $350 billion surplus, bringing the total to $450 billion. This raises the question of how the public will react. The devil is in the details, it's feared.

반면에 한국은 처음 미국에 1000억 달러를 오퍼했지만, 3500억 달러 블러스 1000억 달러를 추가해 총 4500억 달러를 지불하게 되어 앞으로 국민들이 어떻게 평가하고 나올지 주목된다. 악마는 디테일에 있다는 것이 우려스럽다는 것이다.

At today's White House briefing, Press Secretary Leavitt in responded to my question, "South Korea and the United States reached a tariff deal yesterday. President Trump announced on his truth social, SNS that he would announce specific investment details at the South Korea-U.S. summit in two weeks. are these tariff negotiations the final deal, or are further negotiations needed?"

오늘 백악관 브리핑에서 레빗 대변인은 “한국과 미국이 어제 관세협상을 타결했다. 그리고 트럼프 대통령은 그의 truth social을 통해 2주후 한미 정상회담에서 구체적인 투자에 관해 발표하겠다고 밝혔다. 이번 관세협상이 최종협상이냐? 아니면 앞으로 협상이 더 필요 하느냐?”는 나의 질문에,

Leavitt said, “Well, yes, as you know, the President met with representatives of the Republic of South Korea here at the White House Yesterday, and, in fact, reaelpch a deal. And South Korea will pay a 15% tariff rate, including 15% on autos, while providing historic market access to American goods like autos and rice."

레빗은 “아시다시피 대통령은 어제 여기 백아관에서 한국 대표들을 만났고, 그들은 실제로 합의에 도달했다. 그리고 한국은 자동차와 쌀과 같은 미국 상품에 대한 역사적인 시장 접근을 제공하면서, 자동차에 15%를 포함하여 15%의 관세율을 지불할 것이다.”고 말했다.

"Korea will purchase $100 billion in American energy by 2028 and the centerpiece of this deal is that South Korea has agreed to invest $350 billion at the President's direction to revitalize American industry. 90% of those profits will go to the United States government to help pay down our debt and for other matters. At the President's Tuesday, it was a very successful meeting yesterday." she said.

한국은 2028년까지 1000억 달러의 미국 에너지를 구매할 것이며, 이 거래의 핵심은 한국이 미국 산업을 활성화 하기 위해 대통령의 지시에 따라 3500억 달러를 투자하기로 합의했다는 것이다. 그 이익의 90%는 우리의 빛을 갚고 다른 문제를 해결하기 위해 미국 정부에 들어갈 것이다. 대통령의 화요일에서, 어제 회의는 매우 성공적이었다.“고 덧붙였다.

Meanwhile, when asked, "Has a date been set for the South Korea-U.S. summit?" she replied, "Nothing has been set yet. I will let you know when the date is set."

한편 “한미 정상회담에 관한 날짜가 정해졌느냐?”는 질문에는, “아직 정해진게 없다. 날짜가 정해지면 알려주겠다.”고 말했다.
