"North Korea fires multiple ballistic missiles into West Sea -'first provocative action since Trump took office.' "

@North Korea fired several ballistic missiles from inland Hwanghae Province toward the West Sea on the afternoon of the 10th.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea fired several ballistic missiles toward the West Sea on the afternoon of the 10th (local time). North Korea said that it had detected several ballistic missiles fired from the inland of Hwanghae Province in North Korea toward the West Sea at around 1:50 p.m. that day, and that “our military is maintaining a full readiness posture while maintaining close cooperation between South Korea and the United States while strengthening surveillance and vigilance.”

This is the first ballistic missile launch by North Korea since President Trump took office on January 20.

북한이 10일(현지시간) 오후 서해 방향으로 탄도미사일 여러발을 발사했다고 한국 합동참모본부가 발표했다. 북한은 이날 오후 1시50분께 북한 황해도 내륙에서 서해 방향으로 발사된 탄도미사일 수발을 포착했다며 “우리 군은 감시 및 경계를 강화한 가운데 한미간 긴밀한 공조를 유지하면서 만반의 대비태세를 유지하고 있다.”고 밝혔다.

이번 북한의 탄도미사일 발사는 지난 1월20일 트럼프 대통령이 취임한 후 처음이다.

북한의 이날 미사일 발사는 한미 연합군사훈련인 ‘자유의 방패(프리덤실드)가 시작된 첫날로서 북한의 반발로 보이지만 자세한 분석은 한미간의 분석에 맡긴다.

After the missile launch, the North Korean Foreign Ministry criticized the joint South Korea-U.S. exercise through a Rodong Sinmun article, calling it an "aggressive and confrontational war demonstration" and a "dangerous and provocative act that will push the situation on the Korean Peninsula beyond the limit."

북한 외무성은 미사일 발사후 노동신문 보도문을 통해 한미연합연습이 “침략적이고 대결적인 전쟁시연 ”이라며 “조선반도 정세를 극한점 너머에로 끌어올리는 위험천만한 도발적 망동”이라고 비난했다.

As North Korea's provocative actions are expected to intensify amid the current political chaos in South Korea, the security vacuum on the Korean Peninsula is more critical than ever.

현재 한국의 혼란스런 정국을 틈타 북한의 도발적 행위가 심해질 것으로 예상되면서 한반도의 안보공백은 어느때보다 위중하다.(끝)
