Richard Grenell, the special presidential envoy for North Korea in the second Trump administration, said on the 21st at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Oxon Hill, Maryland, that President Trump “could appear with Kim Jong-un.”
트럼프 2기 행정부에서 대북 특별 임무를 담당할 리처드 그레넬 특별 임무 담당 대통령 특사는 21일 메릴랜드주 옥슨힐에서 열린 보수정치행동회의(CPAC) 연례행사에서 트럼프 대통령이 “김정은과 함께 등장할 수 있다”고 말했다.
Ambassador Grenell served as the US Ambassador to Germany and Acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) in the first Trump administration, and was appointed as President Trump’s foreign policy and security advisor during the current presidential election. He was also mentioned as a candidate for the White House National Security Advisor and Secretary of State, but was appointed as a special envoy in charge of Venezuela and North Korea.
그리넬 대사는 트럼프 1기 행정부에서 주독일 미국대사, 국가정보국(DNI) 국장대행을 지냈고 이번 대선 과정에서는 트럼프 대통령의 외교안보 참모로 중용됐다. 이에 백악관 국가안보보좌관, 국무장관 후보로도 거론됐으나 베네수엘라, 북한문제등을 담당하는 특별임무 특사로 임명됐다.
Special Envoy Grenell said in a talk at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) annual event held in Oxon Hill, Maryland, on the 21st (local time), "“I don't think that talking means that you're weak. I actually think talking is a tactic to get to a goal.”
그레넬 특사는 21일(현지 시간) 미국 메릴랜드주 옥슨힐에서 열린 보수정치행동회의(CPAC) 연례행사 대담에서 "대화가 나약함을 의미한다고 생각하지 않는다. 오히려 대화는 목표를 이루기 위한 전술이다"고 말했다.
He emphasized, "We saw that President Trump is a person who can appear with Kim Jong-un, and we should be able to have that kind of dialogue with Russia as well." “And so we've seen with President Trump. He can show up with Kim Jong Un and we need to be able to have these conversations with the Russians…
그러면서 "우리는 트럼프 대통령이 김정은과도 함께 나타날 수 있는 인물이란 것을 봤고, 우리는 그러한 종류의 대화를 러시아와도 할 수 있어야 한다"고 강조했다.
“We don't do regime change.” “We are going to deal with the countries that are in front of us and our criteria is not how do we make that country better? How do we make America better, stronger and more prosperous for the people that live here?”
이어 “우리는 정권 교체를 목표로 하지 않는다”며 “우리의 기준은 다른 나라를 더 나은 곳으로 만드는 것이 아니라, 미국을 더 좋고 강하며 번영하게 만드는 것”이라고 강조했다.
Special Envoy Grenell recalled that President Trump met with Chairman Kim Jong-un during his first term in office, and also emphasized that he should be able to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.
그레넬 특사는 트럼프 대통령이 집권 1기 당시 김정은 위원장과 만났던 점을 상기하면서 우크라이나 전쟁을 끝내기 위해 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령과도 대화할 수 있어야 한다는 점을 강조하기도 했다.

Meanwhile, White House National Security Advisor Michael Waltz referred to President Trump as the “Presidency of Peace” in the CPAC talk program that day and said that President Trump’s foreign policy is based on the principle of “peace through strength.”
한편 마이클 왈츠 백악관 국가안보보좌관은 이날 CPAC 대담 프로그램에서 트럼프 대통령을 ‘평화의 대통령’으로 지칭하며 트럼프 대통령의 외교 기조는 ‘힘을 통한 평화’ 원칙에 기반한다고 밝혔다.
Advisor Waltz said that President Trump will end the war in Europe and the Middle East and "He is going to reinvest the United States and our leadership in our own hemisphere."
왈츠 보좌관은 트럼프 대통령은 유럽과 중동에서 전쟁을 끝낼 것이라며 “미국의 리더십을 미주 대륙 내에 재투자할 것”이라고 말했다.
He also emphasized that “By the end of this all, we're going to have the Nobel Peace Prize sitting next to the name of Donald J. Trump...You establish peace through strength.”
그러면서 “이 모든 것이 끝날 때쯤 도널드 J. 트럼프의 이름 옆에는 노벨 평화상이 놓일 것”이라고 말하며 ‘힘을 통한 평화’를 구축해야 한다고 강조했다.
As criticisms are being raised that the US is excluding Ukraine and Europe and entering into talks on the end of the war with Russia, Special Envoy Grenell is refuting them, saying that President Trump is someone who values negotiations and talks with North Korea.
미국이 우크라이나와 유럽을 배제하고 러시아와 종전 협상 논의에 들어가자 비판이 제기되고 있는 가운데 그리넬 특사는 트럼프 대통령이 협상을 중시하고 북한과도 대화하는 사람이라며 이를 반박하고 있다.
At a White House briefing yesterday, National Security Advisor Waltz also said that the only person who can stand up to Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un is President Trump. We can look forward to President Trump's negotiation skills once again.
왈츠 보좌관도 어제 백악관 브리핑에서 푸틴, 시진핑, 김정은에 맞설수 있는 인물은 트럼프 대통령뿐이라고 밝혔다. 트럼프 대통령의 협상술을 또한번 기대해 볼만하다.(끝)
