@Q&A with a White House Press Secretary Karoline leavitt and Janne Pak at the White House Press Briefing on Feb 12, 2025.

The White House said today (12th, local time) that it has not discussed the current chaotic situation in South Korea with President Trump and referred him to his previous statement. It also said that it would provide a clear answer once it received it from the National Security Council, which is focusing on South Korea issues.

백악관은 오늘(12일, 현지시간) 한국의 현재 혼란스런 상황에 대해 Trump 대통령과 이에 대해 얘기 하지 않았다며, 대통령의 이전 성명을 참고 해라고 말했다. 그러면서 한국문제에 집중하고 있는 국가안보위원회(NSC)에서 확실한 답변이오면 제공할 것이라고 밝혔다.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a briefing today (12th, local time) when I asked, “What is President Trump’s reaction to the chaotic situation in South Korea, and what role will the United States play if South Korea asks for your help?” “I have not spoken with the President about this ongoing situation in south korea.” and “I will refer to the President’s previous statement,” she said. “I may also see if I can get any new information from the National Security Council. I will notify the officials who are focused on South Korea, who are very enthusiastic about this issue, and I will be happy to provide an answer to this question.”

캐롤라인 leavitt 백악관 대변인은 오늘(12일, 현지시간) 브리핑에서 “한국의 혼란스런상황에 대해 트럼프 대통령의 반응은 무엇이며, 한국이 미국의 도움을 필요하다고 요청하면 미국은 어떤 역할을 할것이냐?”는 나의 질문에, “나는 대통령과 한국의 현재 상황에 대해 이야기하지 않았다.”며 “대통령의 이전 성명을 참고할것,”이라고 말했다. 그러면서 “국가 안보 위원회에서 새로운 내용을 얻을 수 있는지 알아볼 수도 있다면서. 이문제에 대해 매우 화신하고 있는 한국에 집중하는 관리들에게 알린후 기꺼이 이문제에 대한 답변을 제공할 것.”이라고 말했다.

Meanwhile, NSC Spokesman Brian Hughes sent the following response to the question: "The U.S.-ROK alliance is ironclad. The Trump administration remains in close contact with our South Korea counterparts as we work together to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific."

한편 브라언 휴스 NSC 대변인은 질문에 대한 후속조치로 다음과 같은 답변을 보내왔다. "미한 동맹은 철통같습니다.  트럼프 행정부는 자유롭고 개방적인 인도-태평양을 증진하기 위해 함께 노력하면서 우리의 한국 동료들과 긴밀한 연락을 유지하고 있습니다."

A few days after being elected US President last November, President Trump called President Yoon and boasted of the South Korea-US alliance and expressed interest in South Korea's shipbuilding industry.

트럼프 대통령은 지난해 11월 미 대통령에 당선된후 며칠후 윤대통령에게 전화를 걸어 한미동맹을 과시했고 한국의 조선업에 관심을 표명했었다.

QUESTION:(Janne Pak): On South Korea, South Korea is Currently in a chaotic situation. How does the President Trump react to the current chaotic situation in South Korea?

Secondly, If South Korea needs help from the United States, what role do you think the U.S will play?

A:(Karoline leavitt): Sure, I haven't spoken to the President about this ongoing situation in South Korea. I would defer you to his previous statements, and I can also see if I can get you something new from the national security council, who I'm very confident the officials that are focused on south korea are on this I just haven't spoken to them about it, but I'm happy to provide that for you.

답변:(캐롤라인 레빝): 나는 대통령과 한국의 현재 상황에 대해 이야기하지 않았습니다. 대통령의 이전 성명을 참고하시고, 국가 안보 위원회에서 새로운 내용을 얻을 수 있는지 알아볼 수도 있습니다. 나는 한국에 집중하는 관리들이 이 문제에 대해 매우 확신하고 있습니다. 나는 그들과 이야기하지 않았지만, 기꺼이 그것을 제공해 드리겠습니다.

On December 3rd of last year, after South Korean President Yoon declared martial law, the opposition party in Korea impeached him as a rebel leader and passed a motion in the National Assembly. As a result, President Yoon was suspended from office while retaining his presidency.

작년 12월3일 한국의 윤대통령이 계엄령을 발표한후 한국 야당은 윤대통령을 내란수괴로 몰아 국회에서 탄핵소추안을 가결시켰다. 이로서 윤대통령은 대통령직을 유지한체 업무정지를 당했고다.

And then, the Public Prosecutor's Office, which was not even qualified to arrest the president with an arrest warrant issued by the Seoul Western District Court, mobilized police and other organizations to hastily arrest the president, raided the presidential office, and a crisis was triggered as they confronted the security guards.

그리고 서울 서부지법에서 발행한 체포영장을 가지고 대통령을 체포할 자격도 갖추지 못한 공수처가 졸속으로 대통령을 체포 하기위해 경찰등을 동원해 대통령실을 급습했고 경호원들과 대치한 가운데 위기가 촉발되었다.

President Yoon voluntarily consented to the arrest, and before his voluntary appearance, the president delivered a message to the nation. In his message, the president announced, “The reason I have no choice but to voluntarily appear is that I have to avoid conflict between the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the police, and the security guards who suddenly entered the presidential office, and the citizens who were protesting outside the presidential office and opposing the impeachment, claiming that the president’s martial law was justified.”

윤대통령은 자진해서 체포에 동의했고, 대통령은 자진 출두전에 대국민 메시지를 전달했다. 대통령은 메시지에서 “자신이 자진 출두할 수밖에 없는 이유에 대해, 대통령실에 기습적으로 들어온 공수처일행과 경찰, 그리고 경호원들, 대통령의 계엄령이 정당했다며 탄핵을 반대하면서 대통령실 밖에서 집회를 하던 시민들의 충돌을 피하기 위해 대통령이 자진해서 출두할 수밖에 없다.”고 발표했다.

South Korea is currently in the midst of a left-right and ideological war. When President Yoon first announced martial law, citizens were shocked, but after learning the reason why the president had no choice but to declare martial law, citizens began to realize it again.

한국은 지금 좌우 및 이념전쟁이 진행중이다. 처음 윤대통령이 계엄령을 발표했을때는 시민들이 놀랬지만, 대통령이 계엄령을 할 수 밖에 없었던 이유를 알고부터 시민들은 다시 깨달기 시작했다.

In the end, the opposition party's legislative tyranny led to 29 impeachments, and even now, the opposition party is constantly impeaching people if they don't like it. And the necessary budgets have been excessively cut, paralyzing the president's ability to run the country. As announced in the martial law speech, the president is also pointing out that the opposition party is not passing the law on the application of espionage laws that apply espionage activities of China and North Korea, and the confirmation of election fraud, among other pending issues.

결국 야당의 입법폭주로 인해 29번의 탄핵이 진행되었고 지금도 야당은 자신들의 마음에 들지 않으면 무조건 탄핵을 연발하고 있다. 그리고 필요한 예산들을 과하게 삭감해서 대통령이 국가를 운영할수 없도록 기능이 마비되었다. 계엄령 담화에서 발표했듯이 여러 가지 현안중에 중국과 북한의 간첩행위를 적용하는 간첩죄에 대한 야당이 법적용에 대한 통과를 하지않는 것, 부정선거 확인등에도 대통령은 지적하고 있다.

Citizens eventually had no choice but to learn of the opposition party's atrocities and understand President Yoon's martial law. And since martial law is a lawful and inherently powerful act of government under Article 77 of the Constitution, I think it is fortunate that no one was injured and no riots or weapons were used when President Yoon declared martial law, which resulted in the peaceful lifting of martial law for two hours.

시민들은 결국 야당의 이러한 만행을 알고 윤대통령의 계엄령을 이해 할 수밖에 없었다. 그리고 계엄령은 헌법 77조에 의하면 합법적이고 대통령의 고유권한인 통치행위라고 되어있어 이번 윤대통령이 계엄을 선포하면서 누구한사람 다치지않은 평화로운 2시간동안의 계엄이 해제됐기 때문에 폭동과 무기를 사용하지 않은 것이 다행이라고 생각한다.

President Yoon is currently attending the 7th hearing at the Constitutional Court and is exercising his right to defend his legitimacy, but this is also very limited, and his defense team is expressing dissatisfaction with the Constitution.

윤대통령은 현재 헌법재판소에서 열리고 있는 7차 변론에까지 참석해서 자신의 정당성에 관해 방어권을 발휘하고 있지만 이것도 매우 제한적이어서 변호인단이 헌제에 대해 불만을 표명하고 있다.

South Korean citizens hope that the law will be fair and not biased to the left or right, based on the rule of law. The president should return as soon as possible and resume normal duties. Citizens hope that President Yoon will return to the presidential office in order to resolve the many problems between the ROK-US alliance, such as the ROK-US summit with President Trump. According to a Gallup poll, President Yoon’s popularity is currently reported to be over 60%.

한국 시민들은 법치주의에 따라 법이 좌,우에 치우치지않고 공정하게 판단하기를 바라고 있다. 하루속히 대통령이 복귀해서 정상적인 업무를 해야한다. 트럼프 대통령과 한미정상회담등 한미동맹간 산적한 문제를 해결하기 위해서라도 윤대통령이 대통령실로 다시 복귀하기를 시민들은 바라고 있다. 갤럽조사에 의하면 현재 윤대통령의 인기가 60%이상으로 보도하고 있다.

Power comes from the people. The people are above the law and the president is elected by the people. I expect the Constitutional Court judges to never make biased judgments.

권력은 국민으로부터 나온다. 법위에 국민이 있고 국민이 선출한 대통령이다. 헌법재판관들이 절대 편향적인 재판을 하지않기를 기대한다.

In order to maintain peace through strength and the power of the ROK-US-Japan triangular alliance, I hope that President Yoon will return to his original position as soon as possible.

힘에 의한 평화와 한미일 삼각 동맹의 힘을 유지하기 위해서라도 하루 속히 윤대통령이 원위치로 복귀하기를 기대해 본다.(끝)
