"Strengthening and expanding the US-ROK alliance."

Michael Waltz, the White House National Security Advisor, and Shin Won-sik, the Director of the National Security Office of South Korea, had a telephone conversation on the 5th (local time) and discussed various current issues, including strengthening the South Korea-US alliance and the North Korea issue.

마이클 월츠(Michael Waltz) 백악관 국가안보보좌관과 신원식 한국 국가안보실장이 5일(현지시간) 전화통화를 갖고 한미동맹 강화 및 북한문제등 여러 현안에 대해 논의했다.

The current state of confusion continues with the South Korean President in custody, and national security is under threat due to the security vacuum.

작금의 한국 대통령이 구속중인가운데 혼란상태가 지속되고 있어 안보공백으로 인해 국가안보가 위협에 처해 있다.

This is the first time since the Trump administration took office that high-level contacts have taken place between the U.S. government and the South Korean National Security Office, and it is fortunate for the strengthening of the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

트럼프 2기 행정부가 출범한 뒤 미국 정부와 한국 국가안보실 간의 고위급 접촉이 성사된 것은 이번이 처음며, 한미동맹 강화를 위해 다행한 일이다.

Director Shin said that during the phone call with National Security Advisor Walz, he exchanged opinions on South Korea-U.S. relations, North Korea issues, and regional and global cooperation, including South Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation.

신 실장은 왈츠 국가안보보좌관과 통화에서 한미관계와 북한 문제, 한미일 협력을 포함한 지역 및 글로벌 차원의 공조 등에 관해 의견을 교환했다고 밝혔다.

Director Shin then congratulated Advisor Walz on his inauguration and said, “I am confident that we will be able to further strengthen the South Korea-U.S. alliance under the Trump administration.”

신 실장은 이어 왈츠 보좌관의 취임을 축하하며 "트럼프 행정부 하에서 한미동맹을 더욱 강화해 나갈 수 있을 것으로 확신한다"고 말했다.

National Security Advisor Waltz agreed and said, “I look forward to expanding cooperation between South Korea and the US in various fields.”

왈츠 보좌관은 이에 공감하며 "다양한 분야에서 한미가 협력을 확장해 나가기를 기대한다"고 화답했다.

In addition, it was reported that the two sides agreed to meet in Washington, D.C., as soon as possible for broader consultations.

아울러 양측은 더욱 폭넓은 협의를 위해 가급적 빠른 시일 내에 미국 워싱턴DC에서 만나기로 했다고 전해졌다.

The South Korea-US alliance is more urgently needed than ever to stop North Korea’s Kim Jong-un’s aggressive ambitions and to check China.

한미동맹은 북한 김정은의 침략야욕을 중단시키기 위해서 그리고 중국을 견제하기 위해서 무엇보다 절실히 필요한 시기이다.(끝)
