@Q&A with a Pentagon Press Secretary General Pat Ryder and Janne Pak at the Pentagon Press Briefing on November 26, 2024.

While North Korea is known to be supporting Russia with short-range ballistic missiles, it has been reported that it is expanding a key military factory that manufactures missiles in Hamheung, South Hamgyong Province.

북한이 러시아에 단거리 탄도미사일을 지원하는 것으로 알려진 가운데 함경남도 함흥에 미사일을 제작하는 핵심 군수공장을 확장하고 있다고 알려졌다.

North Korea is also sending North Korean military personnel to a drone manufacturing factory in Russia and is manufacturing and supplying suicide drones to Russia.

North Korea and Russia have signed a military cooperation treaty, and weapons and technical support are beginning in earnest.

In order to win the war in Ukraine, Russia wanted to send North Korean troops, and North Korea has ambitions to obtain advanced nuclear missile technology and economy from Russia.

우크라이나 전쟁에 승리하기 위해 러시아는 북한군 파병을 원했고 북한은 러시아로부터 핵 미사일에 대한 고급기술과 경제를 얻을 야망을 갖고 있다.

While Russia is strengthening military cooperation with North Korea, it is issuing a harsh warning, saying, 'South Korea is helping Ukraine.' The Russian Kremlin warned, “South Korea is being used by the United States and the West, and Korea will be targeted as an accomplice of the West, which will lead to very bad consequences.”

러시아는 북한과의 군사협력을 하면서 한국이 우크라이나를 돕고 있는데 대해 살벌한 경고를 하고 있다. 러시아 크렘린궁은 “한국이 미국과 서방에 이용당하고 있다며, 한국이 서방의 공범자로 표적이 될 것이며 이는 매우 나쁜 결과를 초래할 것이다.”고 경고했다.

At the Pentagon briefing today (16th), Spokesperson General Ryder responded to my question by saying, “North Korea provided approximately 100 short-range ballistic missiles to Russia. And Russia is expanding its ballistic missile manufacturing plant in North Korea." To my question, “What are the concerns about North Korea and Russia providing weapons and technical support in earnest?”

“Of course, we are concerned about the developing relationship between North Korea and Russia, as evidenced by the fact that they have deployed more than 12,000 troops to Russia in support of the invasion of Ukraine,” he said. “And so, it's something that we're going to continue to take seriously, keep an eye on and work closely with our regional partners to address those threats."

General Ryder also responded to a question about “The Russian Kremlin is warning South Korea that the war in Ukraine will be prolonged,” he said, "I think Russia obviously invaded Ukraine. It's a little bit of gaslighting there." "They could end this war today by withdrawing their troops from Ukrainian territory and restoring peace and stability to the region.

QUESTION:(Janne Pak): Thank you, general. I have a couple of questions about the Russia, Ukraine and North Korea. According to the Ukraine defense intelligence, North Korea has provided Russia with a KN23, KN24 and about 100 short-range ballistic missiles. And Russia is expanding its ballistic missile manufacturing plant in North Korea. North Korea and Russia are providing full scale weapons and technical support. What are your concerns about it?

We're, of course, concerned about the developing relationship between North Korea and Russia as evidenced by the fact that they've deployed, you know, upwards of 12,000 troops into Russia to support their invasion of Ukraine. And so, it's something that we're going to continue to take seriously, keep an eye on and work closely with our regional partners to — to address those threats.

It also said that if South Korea provide additional weapons to Ukraine, the war will be prolonged. How do you assess this?
